| DES | The left side snap / insert where the top plugs into the trunk lid doesnt snap.
I looked at the linkage and it all moves when triggered by the trunk handle.
Anyone else ever had this issue and if possible, whats the remedy?

| lionberger | I haven't had that issue but just this week I adjusted my pins so I will try to point out several things to look for. First is the spring that holds the pins broken? Just raise the deck lid and visually check to see if it is OK. Second (and most likely)the pin just needs to be extended with an adjustment. First, with the deck lid closed and the top raised check, from the inside if the pin is far enough down to engage the spring. If not loosen the lock nut and extend the pin until it does engage. Retighten the lock nut and you are done. It wouldn't hurt to check the other side while you are at it. Also check the locating pins of the deck lid. | catfish | as lionberger says,latch in lid maybe broken,ck.it.i doubt if it is.the pin in top needs to be adjusted out,counterclockwise to lengthen the pin.has 2 nuts,one visibe one on backside.you will nee d a vise grip and 2 box wrenches.mine had locktite on the threads.use vise grip to hold pin while loosening nuts.also before loosening
take a small marker and mark aroung base of pin,so you know where it was,after you loosen it.you will only need a couple turns for it to engage in lid.------------------

| BeWare | Other than the suggestions already provided are you latching at the windshield before or after you lock down the rear of top. Try loosely connecting the windshield latches first. Latch down the rear and then secure/ tightened the windshield latches. |
| ed monahan | I disagree with Rich's method. I know the book tells you to latch the rear first, but when you latch the rears first and then PULL the top forward you are putting a strain on the rear pins and possibly pulling them at a slightly different angle. I latch the front first and then push straight down on the rear.
I realize some folks will totally disagree with that and that is not the method recommended but I think it puts less laterally stress on the rear pins and helps keep them tight. |

Ed I do it this way also. I think it is easier on front clips, rear clips and me.LOL

| DES | now that I think about it... seems like I had this issue before and the fix was to undo the latches at the windshield and snap the trunks first...
will try this weekend

I could be recalling the source incorrectly, but I think it was Bob, CJ, or possibly Jerry (not the Mayor Jerry) that advised pushing into the trunk first, due to its aluminium make-up, and then latching the frint clips. I have been doinf it this way ever since that first CAAP tour trip with no problems. |

| BeWare | Mine is also a 99 purchased brand new 04/1999. I have always latched the top this way. Nothing has ever broken. |
| ed monahan | The more I think about it, I realize that it was on the hardtop that I kept loosening the pins by doing the rear first and then pulling the top forward with the front clips. I finally decided to do the fronts first and just drop the back straight in.
Whatever works for you is the right way. |
