Ronald HeintschelStopped Friday at the local Dodge Dealer to test drive a Challenger
It was Silver and had the new hood scoop and spoiler on it
Looks like it had everything but no sun roof was an automatic. After the test drive the sales person asked if i liked the car i told her it was nice but i would like a red one she asked if i had a car to trade in.They had a red on their so we looked at it price was just over 38,000.00 I said that i was selling my Prowler (it is listed on this site )She told me that they would take it in trade i told her it would have to be a even trade
next thing i know we are in talking to the sales manager
he seems to think it might work but i would have to come up with a few hundred bucks to cover the difference in taxes i get employee pricing well now i don't know what to do
bjprowlerAny guesses what the Challenger is going to be worth in three years versus a Prowler three years from now?

EssexExportExcellent point BJ.
alrtgWhen I was looking to get the Prowler I now have I was also looking at the new Challengers as well. (3.5 V6 automatic cars)

I don't know if it makes any difference in your situation or not but, the insurance was double on the Challenger as it was on the Prowler.
This really did not make any sense to me as both cars had the same engine, both automatic, and both were going to be paid in cash,(No Lien) same driver and coverage limits.

I figured a two seat convertible would be more of a risk than a four seat hard top, I guess the age made the difference.

As it turns out I got the Prowler and do not regret the choice.
I would like to think the Prowler will retain it's value much better than the Challenger.
The Challenger would make a better daily driver and parts may not be anywhere near the problem they are with the Prowler simply from the production numbers and that the Challengers are being used more for basic transportation.

In the end I would suggest that you follow your needs regardless of thinking about the resale value down the road. JMO

HScottDaily Driver, Get the Challenger. Wow factor you know which one to get. I have driven many cars over the years from corvettes to antique cars, only the prowler makes everyone look from kids to women.
catfishyou will pay way more for insurance on a challenger than a prowler due to the year diff.a prowler will always be worth more than a challenger down the road.although i think a challenger will be worth more than a camaro jmo.

idiveI know someone that had a new Challenger. They hit a parked car at 7mph and did over $6K in damage. Something you may want to consider. With BJ insurance, cost difference to insure would not be an issue.
WildBillThe Challenger is a sweet ride and I hope to own one some day as well as a few others: But you will have to pry my Prowler away from my cold dead hands. And I still will fight you.

The Prowler is a timeless design and an instant classic.

garysssWas the Challenger a SRT or RT? If you were selling your Prowler to buy a Challenger, than it sounds like a good deal for you.
meancatRon, I'd say buy the challenger, I only say that because you've been trying to sell your prowler. That tell me your looking for something else anyway. So you might as well take the deal and no more trying to sell it.

And you will get another 3 year warranty.

Ronald HeintschelWell i am going to just sell the prowler cause i have a 2007 mustang gt so i don't need two muscle cars
I only put about 800 miles on it last year and this year it has only been out twice.
Thanks for all the feed back
Here is a pic of the mustang

prowlrmanRon..since you are asking for opinions...it all boils down to if you really want the Prowler or not. Since you have it for sale one has to assume you already are past the point of wanting to keep it. Prowlers are all over the place on pricing right now, and yours is exceptional with low miles and a hard top...but fact is prices are all over the place and you could sit awhile waiting for your price. If you can really get what you want on a trade, and you really want a Challenger, then it is probably a good deal to make you happy right now. Whatever the resale value is in the future is not important right now..unless you really don't NEED the Challenger either...then it is an impulse purchase you will probably be sorry for down the road quickly. Then depending on the model my guess is the Challenger will depreciate much faster than the Prowler did, and while a Challenger is probably a more practical car to many people, you may take a loss if you have to dump it quickly. They are far more plentiful on the market now so there is no "premium" demand for them. Then I'd say sit on your Prowler until the right buyer comes along.

My one other thought is that I wonder since they are a dealer and must have a handle on car values (which you would expect they would) they also know Prowler prices are all over the place...and they probably will lowball you once you sit down to do the deal and a "nearly even value" trade may not be in the cards...from my experience in the car industry for nearly 40 years..that's my guess...unfortunately that's how many of them play the game today

alrtgI would suggest that you keep the bolt on stuff like the hard top and sell it separate.
I would guess the trade in difference would not be that much different with or without the hard top. JMO

I am a little confused. If you trade the Prowler for a Challenger then you'll still have two muscle cars. Would you then also be selling the Mustang.

Your Mustang is a real sweet ride and IMO it is better looking than a Challenger.

CJProwler will always be more unique. Yes, Challengers are cool....but it will be like the Mustangs, Corvettes, Camaros, etc. One on every corner. Can't say that about the Prowler!!! JMO
