I'm putting together a "to do list" 1) Wheels - chrome is peeling on the inside. Is it expensive to have them re- chromed? Anybody have them de-chromed and painted body color? or should I 2) Hood doesn't stay up. Are there better supports than stock? Where can I get them? 3) Grille- mine came with plastic chrome strips on the edges (they're cracked) 4) Tires - any preference for dry weather driving? 5) Front bumper mount covers. My Prowler came with the bumpers in the passenger seat. I like the looks. I noticed some Prowlers have covers with signal lights built in. What are my choices? Thanks in advance for any help, Rick You can get TGF or Tom Mills replacements. Both advertise There is a search feature on the upper right hand side of each page. Just type in a word or two and you will get all the answers, pro and con to any topic. Again, welcome and congrats. ------------------ 1) Eli at a company called Fast Forward wheels does and excellent job rechroming.search for Fast Forward Wheels 2) Hood struts at LS Technolligy , his contact info on home page on this site. 3) Grilles came bare with now trim, you can replace it for around 15 bucks its just door edge trim from any auto store. There are lots of grille options as well. 4) Tires - my preference is the ones that come with the car, but Im sure others can chim in. 5) Front bumper mount covers. You can buy the signal light kits fron either Tom Mills or Prowler Products from Gary, both have contact info on this sites homepage. Ed's and KlondikeKat's information will put you on the right track for answers. Next thing you need to do is participate in one of the mandatory orientation meetings. Head to the "Event" forum to see which you care to attend. Smart money tries to make all of them. This message has been edited by MIKE GATLIN on 01-28-2010 at 08:47 AM ------------------ More on tires. I have stayed with run flats for piece of mind. But you can switch to non-run flats if you are looking for a somewhat better. The are many varied opinions on which non-run flats to buy. On the wheels, you have received good advice thus far. But to answer your question you can paint the inner barrels but it will take prep work. I had a set of fronts that were stripped and re-chromed on the outside only and I painted the inner barrels silver. Not many people noticed. Another possible option is Powder Coating I need to decide on wheel options before I get tires. It seems a lot of people are using run flats. Is there a problem with blowouts on the Prowlers? I'll order the LST hood supports. It'll probably be easier to look under the hood when it's not resting on my head. Thanks for the tips on the bumper mount covers. I'll check out the different vendors. Rick Our grille is polished and if I had to it over again I would go with chrome. JMO I had mine new, so the bumpers were on. I am not sure if they even would know or realize if they were gone. It has never come up since I took mine off. I have the stock rear bumpers off also with aftermarket chrome ones that I am sure are not crash worthy like the stock. Sherman, one of my best friends lives up there, I am around there all the time. We will hook up for sure. Enjoy that thing. That crazy rain the other day had me thinking that the roads were kind of washed off so I took the Kat for a little spin. Still too much crap on the streets, so I didn't stay out long. GOOD LUCK! ------------------ ------------------ Be very very careful putting your center caps back on, they break easily! The good news is there is a cure. ------------------RickH HI, I just took delivery of my 2000 Prowler w/hardtop this past Saturday.
just look for something different?
Was this standard?
ed monahan Welcome to the POA and congratulations on getting a Prowler.
The grille did NOT come with the chrome strips on it. That is door edge guard molding. You can replace it for less than $ 20.
The wheels are a somewhat common problem. Not cheap to repair them. There are after market wheels available.
The hood solution is simple. LST Technologies. They last. They are around $ 100 a pair and the hood will open a little higher but it will stay up for years. Don't waste money on OEM replacements.
on the main page. KlondikeKat Hi Rick congrats on your new ride and welcome to Kat world.
John MIKE GATLIN Welcome. You may want to play the lottery today because you are on a roll.
1. Your bought your Prowler
2. You dropped in here for information
Both winning choices.
The issues you have are very common so you can search a wealth of information.Tom Santella Congrats on the Prowler. I am in Ct. also, and I have a black 00. Your gonna love it. I have the Products by Gary bumper relo kit on mine. It is alittle more aggressive looking, exactly what I wanted. The others are very nice too. Plenty of pics here of all of them and more. Bet you can't wait for some real summer cruisin! I need to have my wheels done too, not gonna happen till next winter. Be KOOL!
BackinBlackBeWare Congrats on the new Prowler. RickH Ed, John, Mike, Tom, & BeWare thanks for the advice. I bought My Prowler on a whim and am happy I found the right place for answers. Cracked chrome strips will come off the grill for now. I'm tossing around the idea of the billet grilles but need to decide chrome or polished. RickH Wow! Tom we're almost like next door neighbors. I'm keeping my Prowler up in Sherman for now. When you registered yours did you have the front bumpers on? I don't know if DMV will give me grief if I don't have them on.
Rick garysss Runflats come on all Prowlers new. They are OEM. Many have went to non runflats for softer ride. Prowler has no spare or room for one, that is reason for runflats. WELCOME to POA and enjoy your Prowler. We all think you'll Love it. Gary BeWare quote:

BackinBlackcatfish about the grille, when you peel off the chrome strips, you will have some adhesive residue left, use cheap lacquer thinner/ace hardware to remove it.it will not hurt the paint.if you like the look of the fact.chrome wheels and cant find any replacements you like, definitely go with fast forward wheels, very nice chrome done right, and not much more than a/m wheels. KlondikeKat tip : be very very careful taking off your center caps, they break easily alrtg quote:
