Don Does anyone have comments on converting the rear tail and stop light to the LED type? They make a 1157 LED lamp to replace the stock lamp.

Really? A LED stop lamp would interest me. Much brighter and faster than a tungsten bulb. Where did you find this retro fit kit?
scooter1 Guys, I've had a few of these (replacements for 1157's) mounted on a motorcycle and have found that although they are very bright when viewed from directly behind the vehicle, they are really dim if viewed from off center. In other words, the LEDS are very directional. Although they might be legal, I wouldn't use them. In most applications where they come O.E. in cars or bikes, they have special lenses that amplify the brightness of the LEDs when viewed from off center. Just my thoughts from having used them. If you still want a set, try E-Bay, they're pretty cheap.
Don Super brite makes a wide angle replasement so they keep the brightness from the side view.

phil2237 PeP Boys carries them...
MDProwler The APC led's that I tried last year (from Peppy Boys)promptly blew the fuse on that circuit. I found that the terminals are not set up the same as the OEM bulbs causing a short circuit. If you do change to them you will need the load resisters to make them flash properly. They are also available at superbrightleds.com
The center tailight is already LED

wallygator310 You also have to remember that our tail light blubs now go in from the bottom and then shine 360 degrees. An led is usually made with the leds shining one way, so this menas that the blub will shine up and not out (360 degrees). You would have to get a blub with both the up-shining and with leds all around the outside of the blub. This will not give you ennough light as you would only be seeing about 3-4 leds and not 10-15 dead on. Just my thoughts as I have tried it and it don't work. I guess if you could find a right angle blub it would work where it would go into the socket and then do a 90 out the back.

Feral I just went to the SuperBrightLED website and found that they do make a 90 degree angle version. I use yellow led bulbs behind my clear side marker lights and they work great. No problem flashing, either.

MDProwler The flasher circuit does not see the side marker lights. You can remove them altogether and not effect the flash rate. The front and rear will effect it though and need resisters. I hope someone finds something that works as I still would like to go to LED's.
catfish md prowler is right,the sellers do not always tell you there is a different voltage between leds and reg.bulbs,and i do believe the right angle bulbs may not fit do to clearence problems,you would have to buy them and try'em.

A lot of what Gary (The Prowler DR.) is saying is true. I was going to get a different set of taillights for my HEMI when I was in Carlisle this year. I finally found a design that I really liked, but learned that they did not use LEDs. I wanted the same style, but with LEDs for the illumination instead. Of course the company didn't make it. One salesmen said that I could replace them with the LED "bulbs" sold at PepBoys mentioned above, but then both him & another salesman quickly told me not to use them since the bulbs get too hot for the vehicle & have melted themselves to even the OEM taillight housings. The owners had to cut & replace the bulb sockets since they couldn't free the LED bulbs. I don't know if that is true for all makes, but it sounded true for all Mopars. I would be careful.

Don So much for the guy at PeP Boys, LED's do not get hot. There is no element to burn therefore no heat.
