Andy Perrotta I have a 2002 candy apple red car, 5800km, and I just found a stress crack on a horizontal weld on the frame, ahead of the drivers rear wheel, I know they had this problem on 600 2001 cars and the cars where all replace, two questions. has this happen to anyone, and what the hell do I do, Thanks Andy Perrotta, Canada
ASHEVILLE-KATI have a 2002 Candy Red Cat also...
Can you post some photos of that stress crack that shows the fracture and where it's located so that I, and other owners, can check our cars for the problem.

Thanks in advance.

pr4mncplusYou know, as I continue to search POA and elsewhere to buy my first Prowler, I see more of these kinds of posts and I'm becomming more apprehensive about buying a Prowler. This kind of quality control is simply unacceptable.
toysI think Bob (real rod) Posted about a frame stress crack in the front of his car awhile ago but never heard anything else about it??

Andy,

No offense intended but I believe you have your facts wrong.
If I remember correcttly the was a recall for certain 99 Prowlers. I think it only affected around 60 cars and was due to some soft castings or missing welds in the front crossmember area of the aluminum frame.

I'm not questioning that you see something.
I doubt a crack in the area you describe would be caused by stress to the metal. There is little torsional flex in this area. Are you absolutely sure that what you are seeing is a crack? Sometimes a weld will overlap the adjoining metal and will look much like a crack.

1buddycAndy, I read your post with interest. From my perspective I can understand your uneasiness but dont necessarily share the concern. If it was me, I would just find a Race Car fabricator in the area or someone who welds in the Aviation Industry and have them repair the cracked weld. Anyone who has owned/built race cars or other high performance exotics in the past knows that even with a completely hand made chassis, sometimes welds fail or are done improperly in the first place. Nothing to worry about, just fix it! I consider our Prowlers to be in a similar class as so much of the fabrication was done by hand rather than the standard robotics. And things happen. I'm surprised things like that arent reported more often since there were 11,000+ Prowlers made. I also think that more knowledgable enthusiasts own Prowlers then most other production cars and as such, the Prowler is subjected to more scrutiny. I'll bet a lot of welds on Corvettes are bad but go un-noticed by the average owner. As far as pr4mncplus is concerned, well DONT BUY ONE. Either you get it or you dont. Sorry to vent guys but it chaps me sometimes that those who dont own one and have never owned one are the most critical. And Andy, you have a legitiment complaint. Just get it fixed if you like your car. Anyone qualified to weld Aluminum will be qualified enough to tell you if you have a real problem or not. I'll bet not. And forget about Uncle Chrysler helping to pay for it. As always, this is JMHO. -Buddy.

I must have read your mind. This was exactly my thought as I was reading through the posts. But I also can understand his concern. If after driving one he's still worried, then he don't get it.

pr4mncplusObviously, Buddy, you missed my point. I am in the market to buy a Prowler and still wish to do so but it is a bit disconcerting to see these types of posts. Don't be so offended to jump on someone's comments or observations questioning build quality. If you truly believe that I'm being critical (I think you mean overly critical) about Prowlers overall then perhaps you missed my point. You've never done research on a purchase before making a sizable payment? I can question it because I'm looking at BUYING a Prowler. The more issues I have to look out for when considering my purchase, then I would have to come to a logical conclusion that there are too many defects to overlook. With some of the asking prices well over $40k, I don't think it's unrealistic to question some of the issues described here at POA. Let's not get into a debate (hopefully friendly) about being too sensitive simply because you own a Prowler or you don't. That isn't the issue.
DUSTIPR4,
what part of the panhandle you're from ?
There's another POA member (Scott) down there close
to Panama City !
pr4mncplusDustis, I've spoken to Rick (Prowl36) as well as Prowler Bill out of Hollywood FL but not to Scott out of Panama City. I've noticed a few prowlers in the area along the coast but since we have a high tourist population right now (Destin, Fort Walton Beach), you never know who is local except from the plates.
