------------------ Call 911 - there is a Prowler in my garage.... The others are correct. Prowler will run on regular, mid-grade or premium. The ECU will adjust the engine settings to match the fuel that is currently being consumed. The rated horsepower was attained using 91 octane premium fuel. Using a higher octane rating will not increase the power. It may actually decrease the power as the higher octane fuel burn more slowly. We used different grades of fuel in my Rambler engine while it was on an engine dyno. It made the most power with 92 octane premium. The engine actually dropped in excess of 5 HP with 100 octane unleaded racing gas. The engine builder currently has the car. He will run it on his chassis dyno to reset the carb mixtures. He will also test the power differences between the 94 that is in the car now, 89 and even 87 to see what produces the most power. I'm concerned because this engine is at 11.7 measured compression ratio.galaxie I know that there are many different views on this question about the gas we use in our Kats. Being a new owner, I just got my owners manual. It said to use 91 octane. Where I live we have 87,89,& 93. The manual also said not to use anything over 91 octane. I guess my question is what octane should I use? Would the middle range be o.k? ALLEY CAT Middle grade is fine,,,,,or use regular unleaded. Computer will adjust to octane.
Y2K Silver Millennium Edition and '01 Orange Rolex Editioned monahan Galaxie, if you are anal, like A/C get half 89 and half 93. I used to always use 93 but saw the error of my ways and cut back to regular. BeWare I still run Premium in ours. If it was a daily driver I might change that practice. But first I would have to do more research to insure to myself I was not causing the motor any harm. My wife says I am a worry wart. RPL DCX recommends premium fuel for Prowler. Premium octane varies across the country. In EPA non-compliance areas, they use reformulated fuel which has a 91 octane rating. This is the lowest premium octane rating nationally so that is DCX's recommendation. Other areas of the country offer 92 or 93. Here in Southeast Michigan you can find 92, 93 and 94 octane fuels. I always used 91 octane and never had a problem. I don't think the 89 would hurt. JMOgalaxie THANKS TO ALL FOR YOUR INFO. ON WHICH GAS TO USE.
