I'm betting they didn't get very far. Talk about hard not to spot!

This is kinda cool. http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/theft/theft.cfm

RED5Only 17.....Thanks for posting.....I wonder how many of these got wrecked.

I think last summer there was an attempted Kat-jacking downtown Chicago that resulted in someone getting shot.

Pam called me when she saw it on the news...she thought it was a Yellow or maybe an Inca. I never heard anything else about it.

Checked out the website......someome stole a Honda Insight...I can imagine the car chase.

Wrecked.. hard to say.. I wish we had some way of knowing how many have been wrecked all total.

One thing I found interesting about that site is you can see how many cars where built in any given year.. At a quick glance it looks like there have been about 12 Corvettes built for ever 1 Prowler. In the years that they where both being produced.

ed monahanThe total amount of cars is not correct, unless that is the amount sold per year. It is not off a whole lot.
I wonder if they were all recovered or none recovered. Zack, have you got a pal at NATB?

I noticed the numbers seemed a little off but I figure the difference would be cars not registered or not sold in the US.

cnote699 never stolen??? Do I get a discount?
Marty UsherChris - I guess the thieves are saying "why steal a 99 Prowler when the other years are so much better?"

Bingo!

ed monahanI just sold a 99, already had a 2002 and bought another 99. There is very little difference in my opinion.
I know Marty was joking.

if his got stolen they will have to try to follow the crooks for 200 miles till they run through a tank of gas

you can't catch the yellows cuz they are too fast

Chi_Town_ProwlerIn response to RED 5:

It was about a year and a half ago that an Inca Gold Prowler was recovered here in Chicago.
Because gold Prowlers are so rare here, many of the officers thought that it was MY CAR and called me up. "My baby" was happily (and safely) parked out back but I went over to see the car anyway.
The car was BEAT!!! It had bullet holes in the doors and the leather interior looked 50 years old! Worn out! The steering wheel was changed and the front bumpers were removed. The tires (not rims) were also different. There was paint overspray here and there indicating that the car was involved in an accident.
The car had Texas plates on it, but the car was registered to a dealer from Las Vegas and that's where the car was stolen from.
The car was taken by a "con man" in Vegas and driven to Chicago. The guy was trying to pull a con here in the city and wound up with the wrong people who tried to SHOOT HIM IN THE CAR.
Later on, officers spotted the car and they were suspicious of the Texas plates and brought the guy and the car in for investigation. The guy had phoney papers indicating that he had FULLY PURCHASED it from the dealer in Vegas. When the dealer was contacted, they informed the Detectives that that was a lie and they wanted their car back and wanted to prosecute! One REALLY BEAT PROWLER wound up eventually going back to Vegas.
Ironically prior to all of this happening, I had seen the guy in the Prowler several times cruising around downtown.

whealyCool info ... but I'm stumped. Is the year the calendar year in which the thefts took place or is it the year of the car??? I've read all the searchs, but can't figure out which they are conveying ...
Bob MillerI can't believe people actually steal Yugos. I guess that just goes to show you that thieves are interested in good gas mileage too...

THEFT RATES FOR YUGO PASSENGER VEHICLES

Year Make Model Thefts Production Rate Type

1988 YUGO GY/GVX/GVL 166 37592 4.4158 Car

ed monahanIt was probably one guy who stole all the Yugos. He only got a few blocks with each one, had to steal another one to make it to the bus station.
392HEMIThey make good taxis' south of the border.
BeWareThis is even more shocking I heard dealers could hardly give these away and yet over a 100 were stolen. Maybe dealers were paying someone to steal them
