I'd be curious what sort of Personal Property tax other states have and also what sort of tax assessment other Virginia residents got nailed with. No tax here in Maryland. The roads in Fairfax are no better than anyplace else, so that's not really a benefit. I do know that this fiscal year, ending June 30, 2005, the State of Virginia and the County of Fairfax had millions in surplus, so rather than give it back to the people who paid too much tax, they looked for ways to spend it. Gary - you have a great idea! I'm taking my Kat to Mozambique and register it in Maputo. I may get car-jacked, but at least I won't be paying any tax... Illinois just gets you on use tax(sales tax) when you originally purchase the vehicle. depending on what part of the state you live in from 6.5% to 10% I think is the highest. This message has been edited by kat hunter on 09-28-2005 at 10:14 AM Personal taxes in Missouri paid for 2004 were as follows; 02 Trailblazer $262.92 My new vette will be here before the end of the year so I will have to pay tax on it for all of 2005. They estimate $800-1000. I also have a 2005 Harley Ultra Classic which will be on next years bill. By us anything you buy prior to December 31st of the year you pay personal property tax for the entire year. If you purchased after December 31st, say in January sometime...you would not pay until the following year. I'm jealous of course, I'd love to have that problem. Vanity plates are $71.00 per year. Do you think I am going to call them up and complain. Charlie And fully appreciated also, I bet!!! I wouldn't bet too much on that FP. One "Horney Toad" to another!!! LOL I just can't imagine paying tax over and over every year on one purchase. What a major scam. I would never bought the Prowler if I was going to be bent over like that from the state every year... Our property tax on our house is fairly cheap compared to some other areas. Some states have higher sales tax and others have different amounts assessed for state income tax while a few states have no income tax. Taxes from state to state vary but I won't sell my Prowler because I have to pay property tax on it. This message has been edited by carbuff on 06-09-2006 at 12:43 AM Carbuff For a 1999 Prowler , a 2004 Durango, a 2005 PT Cruiser, and open car hauler, and Prowler trailer the total came to $1,009.00Bob Miller Recently got my Personal Property tax bill from the state of VA. They assessed my 2001 Prowler at $26,875. I don't know where they got that number from exactly, but I think it's low, but I'm not complaining. I'm sure they have a computer system that links into the Kelly Book values or something similar. Anyway the tax this year on my Kat is $613.39 - $588.30 is tax and $25 is for the window sticker. So my tax is .0219% of the assesseed value. tangled up in BLUE ..Indiana doesn't have a property tax on automobiles unless they are commercial...but we have excise tax on our license plates....I paid $375. for plates in 2003 for a 2002 Kat...I don't plate many of my cars anymore so I am kinda lost of the current amounts...I get some of my plates at car shows phil2237 IN CALIFORNIA ,, PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX IS ONLY ON PRIVATE PLANES & BOATS. I NEVER HEARD OF IT FOR CARS ... halicat Is this a bill they give you every year on possesions.. cars , motorcycles, etc. ? MDProwler Bob, can't you register it in some remote african country? pumpkin We pay around $40 for our plates and thats it. New Mexico. Gene No such tax in Florida,I paid 34.00 and change for Prowler tag.Must be some benifits you recieve that we dont.We just pay 6%sales taxes on price of car or trading difference when we purchase and renew tag each year. Fat Pat I shudder to think what it will be in Mo. Don't know yet...won't know til December!! I pay the highest school tax in the state and I have no kids! Bob Miller When you buy a car you pay state sales tax of 4.5% I think it is, then each year you own the car, boat, airplane, truck, etc. you get a Personal Property tax bill from the county. I should mention that this tax is a Fairfax County tax and not a state tax. I don't think all jurisdictions in VA pay this tax. kat hunter no personal property tax in Illinois, plates are $82. halicat I paid 134.00 to put plates on the Prowler... thats for 2 years....
we pay 15% sales tax on almost all purchases ( not on food ) this helps pay for our health care system. (a great deal )
the taxes included in the price of gas are supposed to maintain the roads.... (the roads suk, so we are getting screwed here ).
I pay about $600 per year for property tax and appx 27% of my pay for income tax. pumpkin quote:

New Mexico sales tax on vehicle purchases is 3% . The rate for tags is based on age of vehicle (at time of registration) and weight, so the cost stays the same forever as long as you own the car, unless they decide to raise the rate which they did a couple of years ago. You get a break when you renew for two years ($0.50 total - WOW!) Lone Ranger quote:

The most expensive toy I have is the Mrs, but after 47 years she's fully depreciated.chasmccart Here in "Taxachusetts" we pay a 5% Sales Tax on purchases except clothing and food. We pay an excise tax on vehicles, trailes, motorcycles and boats at a state set rate of $25.00 per $1,000 in value. It is paid to the city or town you live in and is only for the months per year the vehicle is registered. The excise bill for my 2001 Plymouth (Prowler) was $30.00 for April to December 2005. They valued my 2001 Plymouth (Prowler) at $ 1,600.00.
Here is my response to that. Bcoffman Gray Ghost quote:

What a ripoff!! Nowhere in socialistic Canada do we have an tax on a vehicle AFTER you bought it. Only at time of sale. Nice addition to your income tax if you own a half dozen cars, no? Time to move to a progressive state.....TOY4TWO No such Tax here in Washington State, just a flat rate of $30.00 per year for tabs.
