Kruisin KatWe just spent a great afternoon with some fellow POA members (Samthejeepman and Toohipcat), and got a chance to see an actual Prowler trailer in real life (Sam's matching orange with chrome wheels). I did a search on trailers and got some info but have a few questons for you all.

First, Are all the Prowler trailers the same size (I got the impression that there were two from my search)?

Second, The wheel bolt pattern. Is it 5 x 4.5 like the car? Just need to know if I get a trailer so that I can match wheels (I want aftermarket wheels on the Prowler).

Third, What should I look for when looking at one for sale, faulty points, extras and so on?

Fourth, For the money is the trailer a better item to have over say a rack with a waterproof bag/container?

Lastly, Any ideas on the going price during the winter months for a trailer?

Thank you in advance, Paul.

BeWare1) Yes all Prowler trailers are the same size.

2) Yes the bolt pattern is the same but you may need wheel spacers.

3) Look to see the conditon of the paint on the front of the trailer and the fenders. If the owner pulled it any distance at all without a bra the paint will be severely chipped.

4) For the size of the trailer the Prowler trailer is in the high dollar category. But we have never regretted buying one.

5) The trailer is even more rare than the Prowler and the price has pretty much not depreciated much. There are some deals to be found, however I would think most will sell in the $4 to $5K range.

chasmccartKruisin: Try and find a trailer that does not have to be painted to match your car. There was someone selling a purple trailer a few weeks ago. $4,500 I think with extras. I think it was Gary Hardy selling it because he was moving.

ed monahanThe trailers are pretty rare and are holding their price. The racks work okay but they are not "secure" and you cannot carry nearly as much.
I have both and use both. It all depends on what you want, how much you will use it, have a place to store it (or get Larry Lord's kit, which saves a ton of floor space.)
ASHEVILLE-KATFYI - there are MANY other small trailers available for a lot less money out there, and some are VERY nice looking. This website lists 50 different motorcycle trailer manufacturers alone: http://aerobourne.com/motorcycletrailerindex9.htm

Here are 4 examples...
The GENESIS from BushTec: The ELITE from California Sidecar:

The ZENITH from Dauntless:The SILOUHETTE from Sarisota Trailers:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2002 Candy red, second owner. Chrome grill, K&N air filter, MTD upper and lower aluminum front braces, removed front bumpers and sun visors, painted rear bumpers to match body, Rear bumper Shimmer by Jay Harris, Tom Mills turn signal relocation kit, front ceramic brake pads, splash guards all around from day 1, Larry Lord trunk hinge protectors, Scott Curtis door kit (allows doors to open 7" wider), Mopar car cover, Polished door sill and carpet protectors by Real Rod, stainless J-Hooks by A.G.Stoner, Mopar trailer hitch....
WildCatThe Trailer will hold it value and in some cases be worth more then new. I don't think time of year will affect the value of a trailer.
If you are going to travel or go to car show the trailer is very handy.
Yes there are others out there that are cheaper (motorcycle trailer) but there is the COOL FACTOR. nothing looks better than a Prowler pulling a PROWLER TRAILER. (I did like Bill's Coke trailer in Florida bing pulled behind his red Prowler)
A weekender gives you some lockable storage and looks cool
The rack and bag is handy but is subject to the weather and not so law abiding people. How comfortable would you be at a tourist trap with all you stuff strapped to the back and you walking around.
I LOVE MY TRAILER.........and some people think I don't leave home without it
You don't, WC! LOL!
meancatThe only problem with the rack is YOU CAN LOSE YOUR UNDERWEAR ALL OVER THE ROAD.So be careful(if you Pak underwear pack clean one's)
Not mine any more Tami. Sold it to Fat Pat last Dec. Wish I had it back. Maybe one of these days.
Kruisin KatThanks for the input so far. I'm not in the market for one right now unless I run across one that can't be passed up. I just needed to be a well informed buyer so not to miss out on a good one.
samthejeepmanhi paul
ya better get it before we all go to the falls next year, i think between my honey and yours, there will be alot of shopping going on !
by the time we got home, i could not fit a tooth pick into my wifes "shopping cart"
i have pulled a few trailers behind the prowler (coke, motor cycle, pt look alike, and 32 ford look alike, nothing compares to the oem trailer)
Sharp ride though!!! Hope to see you back in another one soon!!! T
Kruisin KatSam, The trip to the Falls is what prompted my post on this. You are right about needing a "shopping cart"! I don't see how anyone can do a trip with women for more than a couple days in a prowler without extra storage space. I could go a week with just what could be put in the "trunk area" of the Prowler but not with the wife! It would be just like our closet, she gets 5 1/2 ft and I get half a foot of hanger space !!!
samthejeepmanwow--you're lucky, you have closet space !!!!!!!!!!
i have a brown paper bag, and that is kept in the dog area --hehehehe
good luck in your quest for the trailer, i too will keep my eyes open for you
Kruisin KatI can't remember so I'll ask. Did DC build/produce the trailers or farm them out to the aftermarket? If they are from the aftermarket, does anyone know the name and contact info for the company?
RPLThe trailers were made by two primary DCX suppliers to DCX design and specifications. The suppliers did not own the rights to the design nor did they own the tooling.
I know these companies well and they have no interest in reentering this business. In fact one of them recently sold the plant where major parts were built and the trailers assembled.
Sorry.
Kruisin KatRPL, Thanks for the info. I was hoping that they might be like the hard tops where if you got enough interest they would start making them again.
It's too bad a company like TGF couln't get permission to build them or one very similar.
I think part of the low original volume of trailer purchases could have been a result of the original purchase price of the car being such a stretch to purchase most couldn't swing the trailer too. Now with alot of used Prowler purchaser's buying the cars at more affordable prices the trailer may not be out of the question if it is fairly priced. Only my opinion, I may be wrong.
ed monahanThey are AJAX trailers and you will be lucky to find a "deal" on one. It will have to be from someone who does not know what they have to get it under $ 4000, in all probability.
