BradleyGTime to get serious about finding a new Prowler. Is there anything I need to know about bringing a car into Texas from Canada. Special Taxes, Fees or anything besides just sales tax in Texas.

Thanks to so many of you who have given me leads and advice on finding another Prowler. Such a big decision..... Lots to choose from..

Feeling MUCH better and have the need to go Prowlin

halicatcheck with Bucknekkid... he has imported a Canadian Kat to the US...
99prowler99Canada has different smog restrictions. I know you cant bring a car from Canada into California due to Smog requirements. If Im not mistaken, Texas has similar restrictions. You should go to your local DMV or check the DMV website and it usually will explain everything there that you need to know. I would buy one in the US, much easier to deal with. JMO
moparmaniaThe only difference between the Canadian kat is the spedo head predominately in kilometers and the Canadian kat has daytime running lights added . The power train and smog is identical to the American kats .
ThunderCanada has quite high emission control regulations, I don't think you will have any troubles with this issue. You won't have that dang fuel shut off either, your kat will easily get up to 200 - 300 mph...
halicati've heard that the Canadian cars have the governor set higher... i've had mine up to 200km/h (124mph)...

shhh .. don't tell my wife

she will make me buy life insurance...

Ed W.I don't believe that there will be any (import) taxes to pay as they were all made in the USA.

That's just a guess on my part.

BuckNekkidI wish I could be more helpful, but I'm not the one who actually brought the car into the country. The original owner bought it and titled it here in the States. I don't believe there is any significant difference between the cars other than the daytime running lights and the fact that the Canadian spec cars have a 20 or 30 mph higher top speed. The speedos themselves are the same for both US and Canadian cars - show both MPH and KPH - however my odometer registers in miles - I honestly don't know if it came that way or if that had to be changed. I seem to remember picking up somewhere that the airbags are somehow slightly different as well (they deploy just as quickly but with less "force" or something).

I can't imagine you'd have any problem bringing a car in from Canada - the Canadian spec cars are the same as the US cars + a few "extras" like the running lights, so bringing one in this direction would be easier than bringing a US car into Canada as you'd have to ADD things to bring it up to Canadian specs.

Hope that helps some

Marty UsherI am 99.9% sure that Real Rod bought a Prowler from Canada several years ago. Mayne Bob will see this and comment.

I bought a Camaro in Vancouver Canada about 5 years ago.. I registered it in North Carolina. No trouble bringing the car to the US. Canada was stiffer standards on just about everything .. they are so safety minded. I'm originally from Dallas and being familiar with emission standards I can't imagine that a Canada car is going to have problems with Texas emissions.

The only problem I had getting the Camaro legal in the US was the Highway Patrol Officer that inspected the car was looking for a sticker under the hood or in the door jam that said the car would pass US crash standards. It didn't have that sticker on it because it was a Canadian car. I explained to the officer that it didn't have that sticker because the car had been in Canada all its life, but it was built in the US just like every other Camaro. He saw how perfect the car was and let me title it.

As far as the differences between a US Prowler and a Canadian Prowler.. They are virtually identical. I've driven both and I recall that the Canadian Prowler showed the milage in miles not in kilometers. The speedometer had both on it.. with miles before kilometers. I think. My Camaro has kilometers as the larger set of numbers and miles under it. Either way its not a big deal.. The only problem with having kilometers on your speedo is remembering when to change the oil.. haha
