Neal & Mary Ann BardensThose of you who plan on crossing across Northern Indiana to get to the Dells need to rethink your route. 80/94 from I-65 to Halsted street in Ill is a total mess. The back up can be any were from 1/2 to 3 hours. They are totally reconstructing the road and all interchanges in this area. We are leaving on Saturday and if others want to meet us they can follow us.

You need to exit 80/94 at I-65 and go South to US 30. West on 30 to 394. North on 394 which turns into 90 through Chicago. This later rejoins 80/94 on the North side of Chicago. For those of you that want to take 80/94 stay on 30 till you come to State street. North on State to Joe Orr road (1 long block). West on Joe Orr to Halsted street. North on Halsted to 80/94. West on 80/94. Unless you have more patience than a Saint I would avoid this work zone.

ed monahanThank you Neal.
East Coast Posse, please note.
Marty UsherWow - have things changed in the last two weeks? When we drove through heading to Milwaukee for Power Tour on June 4th we had no problem at all on I-65 to 80/94 and staying on 94 all the way to Wisconsin.
Neal & Mary Ann BardensYou were lucky and caught them between between. It has been one lane each way for about 3 days now. Sometimes on the weekends they open it up, but not always. It took our service truck 2 1/2 hours last night to get to one of their pieces of equipment to work on it.

RayAnyone planning on traveling through IN / IL Chicago area on Sunday toward the Dells -- there are a few of us here that would like to hook up and caravan for the drive up ... we need to know when and who this might be ... if anyone is interested.

Located right off of 290/53 in Schaumburg and or 90/53 exchange also in Schaumburg -- depending on which way you are passing through (potty stop, coffee refill or just plain get out n stretch break).

BeWareMap Quest shows that we travel through IL from the bottom to the top. Taking I57 North for 193.8 miles, to I74 West for 51.5 miles, to I39 North for 123.9 miles, to I90 West for 117.5 miles.
RayThat's one way to avoid the Chicago traffic Rich ... many options ...
meancatI went through there last week going to Arkansas. What a mess and yes we got caught. About 45 minute wait for us.

CJNeal,

Thanks for the info......will have to re-think our route. Not sure what route we will be taking, but would prefer to skip the Chicago area........even if I have to go out of my way.

RED5I posted my opinion on the "east coast posse to the dells"
thread.

My last time around the bottom of lake michigan into chicago went well.
I am going through again on Thursday and will report on the construction.

MDProwlerAfter careful consideration and hearing everyones input, I think going the southern route thru Indy will work out best.
See Motor Homes .com

It is longer but hopefully better driving.

RayOh yeah, like no construction in Indy .... .... "avoid Chicago at all costs" .... .... if one knows what and where the problems are, just manage your time and plans to accomodate them ... sometimes the "known" IS better than the unknown ... might want to wait for Jesse's report this week for an "update"! JMO
Top KatThanks Neal for the update.
Jim
ed monahanRay, can you post what times most of the accidents will be occurring so we can avoid that mess? lol

Indy SUX big time...I 70 has been a major pain this summer, I avoid it when going to Indy....use parallel routes...

Marty UsherDo you think there will ever be a day you can drive on the interstate system and go through 2 cities without construction?
MDProwlerI say we rent an 18 wheeler and a bus and party all the way to the Dells.

Right now the major problem I have seen here in Indy is on I 70 east of Indy. I can see the back ups daily from my back yard.

I was on `74 west out of Indy to Brownsburg and it was smooth sailing but that is only about 10 miles.

I have NEVER been in a traffic back up in Indy that could compare to the backup in chicago we had going to Milwuakee for the Power tour start. But maybe that is because once I see it I avoid it.

If I find out about road construction in Indy area that might affect the people traveling to the Dells I will post it here.

ed monahanI am sure there will be back ups anyway we go. If you are travelling 40 MPH on the interstate, I consider it a pain. When you are not moving and it is hot and it takes hours to get to the other end of the clog, it is not worth chancing for me.
RED5OK......I drove through the construction yesterday about 7pm from MI to IL on 80/94 its about 10-15 miles of road work. AT NO POINT DID MY SPEEDO DROP BELOW 50.
I was driving between 50mph and 70mph straight through.

There were 3 lanes open the entire time and I think that 7pm still counts as rush hour.
I would guess it would go even faster on a weekend.

I dont know what the big deal is.

Did I miss the bad spot that you are talking about??

Neal & Mary Ann BardensWe are leaving Saturday for the Dell's if anyone wants to meet up and go together let me know. Mary has found a place where we could meet up, that is easy to park in for car haulers. The traffic lanes that are open change daily depending on what they are doing. Throw in the daily accidents with the construction and I would say you were lucky.I have been caught to many times in it to risk it.
