wallygator310	Took the Kat in for a replacement window regulator last week as mine bit the dust. Guess what?, they are on national back order again! I remember Jan B. (I think) saying a while ago that 300 more were made. So they went through 300 in just a couple of months?? Go figure. So, I'll be ...still waiting for mine. Anyone know of a dealership that may have one that my dealership can contact to get it? Wally

ALLEY CAT	I believe Jan B. last time said another 130 window regulators were being made, when there was a national backorder on them. I have seen five Prowler window regulators replace at ONE Dodge dealership here in the past four months,,,,,that is unacceptable. In another recent thread, I asked what are we going to do for them in five years?,,,,,ten years from now when no more will be made? I think I was told not to bitch about shortage of parts? IF you are "out of warranty" and replacing either side window regulator,,,,please, PLEASE have the service department SAVE YOUR DEFECTIVE UNIT and give it BACK to you. IF you are having one replaced under warranty, tell the service writer and the parts department manager to save your's for 90 days, and when DC doesn't ask for it to be returned to them,,,,,that you would like it returned back to you. Jan B. keeps working on a way to rebuild these broken units and may come up with a fix to make them last much longer. Thanks for listening!

Richard Jackson	I know why the regulators are failing....guys like Ed Monahan are driving around in their Prowlers in too cold of weather with THE WINDOWS UP so their hair doesn't get blown around. This cold condition causes premature damage! With the top down and the windows up, that cold Cincinnati air seeps into the regulator forming ice crystals. Because Ed knows so many folks in the area, he must raise and lower the windows an inordinate amount to converse with everyone and viola, a broken regulator. PS Ed is stock piling them in his shed. In the future they will be $1000 on Ebay. lol

You can wrap your brand new or slightly used regulator in fiberglass tape. Do not wrap it at the point as to where it attaches to the electric drive motor. A very good friend of mine and I installed a brand new one on my drivers side just last Summer. It can get pretty tricky at times. Make sure once it is installed and the window glass is reattached to the regulator that the angle of the window glass is correct. It has to fit perfectly with the seal on your hard or soft top of your Prowler. Not only does the glass have to have the correct angle from side to side but also the correct distance from front to back. This can be adjusted where it attaches to your regulator. Why do they break...simple...a pi$$ poor design. A worm gear that is encased in a nylon sleeve. Once this nylon sleeve cracks, the regulator starts to make an unusual noise as the worm gear attempts to pass through it. If the nylon sleeve continues to crack there will be a point in time where the regulator will just fail altogether. If your regulator is starting to moan and groan you can delay its death by carefully gripping the top section of the window glass with one hand while pulsing the electric drive motor with your other hand. This is of course if the window gets stuck in the down position like mine used to. I sincerely wish they would improve upon the design of the cats regulator. I guess we'll have to put these regulators on the same list as the flaking rims. Good Luck! Brian
catfish	tohipcat has it right.a couple of other things. to reinforce it,before applying epoxy,make sure you clean it good and also sand area w/80 grit paper clean again.it usually breaks at each end,where it attaches to the vertical track,and also at the center where the motor attaches,4 areas,i would reinforce all 4 areas.the regulator when new is actually shaped w/center where motor attaches straight across,w/rt.track going straight down and left track going straight up.when installed in door,the shape has to change to an angle,where the center section actually changes to an angle,this angle puts tension on each end where it meets the track lt.and rt.,causing it to eventually fail and crack.they are repairable.if youre replacing it.get the old one and keep it.the dealer if youre paying for it must give it to you.if i was installing a new one,i would leave it in for about a month,till it retains its new shape,then remove and reinforce it. ------------------ This message has been edited by jan bruggeman on 05-01-2005 at 08:37 PM
