firegabeI have Never stored a car, living in CA. never had the need, But now may have to put the Kat to bed for a year or so. What do you all reccomend??
*leave as little gas as possible and put STABIL in,
*Over inflate tires 5psi. to prevent flat spots?
*disconnect Batt. and trickle charge?
*Put up roof but not latch it?
*The Kat will be safe in my garage.
*I am also going to insure it as normal but tell the DMV P.N.O. so if it's stolen the cops will stop it.
Please any Ideas or is this major over kill??

Thanks Firegabe

idiveIf you're going to in-op it for 2 years, I would suggest putting it up on stands instead of overinflating. That will allow you to get under it for any cleaning/polishing/mod work you want to do while it's down.
I also think there's a difference between a charger and a tender. I recommend the tender. Others can be more help here. No need to disconnect the battery. I asked my uncle (he collects cars) about EXTENDED battery disconnects when I got mine in 97 and he told me not to. Said SOME newer cars are set up where that will require the computer to be re-programmed.
He also said as little gas as possible, and recommended STA-BIL.
The rest of the things you mentioned, and keep under cover, and you should be fine.
CTProwlerBattery Tender and Stabil sounds fine. Your going to get lots of different opinions on the rest! Just give your neighbor FD911 the keys and have him take it out for a Ride once in a While. I'm sure he would enjoy driving his old Kat!

RPLDo a search on end of season storage. The owners in the winter climates have this down pretty well. The same tips work anywhere. One question to ask yourself is how much humidity does the car have to contend with. If the temperature and humidity move around, consider a CarBag and 20# of desiccant. The cost is worth every penny. even owners in Houston have found that out first hand.
toysI store my cars with a full tank of gas (NOT TOPPED OFF) & with stabil, the more gas in your tank the less chance of condensation, a full tank of gas is safer and has a lesser chance of condensation & gas vapor build up, than an almost empty gas tank.

On my antique cars that are up for long term storage the battery gets disconnected, on the prowler battery stays connected and i use a battery tender that is plugged in to a lamp timer for a one hour daily charge just to keep the battery active.

this has worked for me.

Dave MillsIn the winter, I use battery tenders on all my stored cars including the Antique six volt ones. I use Stabil and fill the tanks before I park them.

The reason i disconnect the battery on my long term stored antique cars mostly from 30s & 40s is that god forbid i end up with mice nesting somewhere in the car and chewing the wiring harness causing a short and possibly starting a fire.

firegabeNo if I give the keys to my garage I think our buddy FD911 will take off with the Testarossa not the Kat, but then on the up side I will return with the cleanest "Rose" in the country. Ha!! I have California car covers only 20 mins away. I'll go buy a bubble.

I have filled up the gas tank, added STA-BIL, inflated the tires to 35lbs each and have the kat on jack stands. Also connected my Battery Tender to the battery. Placed a cardboard six-pak lid in the car filled with charcoal to absord any moisture and covered my baby for her long winter sleep.

toysNo time to post pics right now.
I have owned many cars but this is what i have right now for old cars
1937 Packard 120 Mint original I'm 2nd owner
1939 buick six wheeler (Rare dual sidemounts)Mint original
1941 Caddy Mint original
1947 caddy mint original
1948 chrysler coupe (chevy six cyclinder and trans).
1957 Caddy fleetwood 60 special. 27k original.
1958 Caddy fleetwood 60 special. 15k I'm 2nd owner.
1967 Buick Lesabre Convertible 38k I'm 2nd owner.
1970 Buick Skylark Convertible 44k I'm 3rd owner.

I used to restore cars. but about thirty five years ago i realized that the differance between a 5 thousand dollar car and a ten thousand dollar car was about 20 thousand dollars, Because by the time i made a 5 thousand dollar car look like it was worth ten thousand I had spent 20 thousand. also that Junk would always Be junk no matter what you did to it.
Thats when i started to buy only mint & original cars.

GenoTexSweet list! And I'm sure we'd all agree with the junk/$$$$spent assessment... but I'd bet we've all done it, and enjoyed it

Geno i just want to note that the only reason the 48 Chrysler has a Chevy motor and Trans is because the original engine had bad bearing's in the motor they all did, and the fluid drive transmission sucked even when they were New. I drove the 48 Chrysler a lot and after two new OEM motors and as many transmissions i opted for the dependability and low maintenance of the Chevy driveline.
I'm pretty Much a purest at heart

jkburnsThis has worked very well for me up here in the frozen north:

- Full gas tank w/Stabil
- Battery Tender
- Car Cover
- Car Bag w/desiccant
- Roof up but not attached at either end
- Inflate tires to max pressure (44 psi)
- Thorough cleaning, followed by a good coat of wax

In the Spring, Kat comes out good as new.
