maskartist	I have a 2003 Chrysler GPS navigation/Sirius satellite radio that I removed from my 2001 PT Cruiser. Can it be installed in my 1999 Prowler without too much difficulty? There is a difference in the bezel that I can deal with, and PT required an adaptor cable because of wiring changes between 2001 and 2003, but it worked fine when in the PT.

maskartist	The Chrysler designation for the radio is RB-1. There is a description here: http://www.new-cars.com/news/030612-dvd-based-navigation-radio.html and there is a close-up picture here: http://www.dodgeboy.net/news/navradio/images/rb1.jpg The radio appears to be the same size as the Prowler radio, and I am hoping that it can interface with the factory wiring simply by using the same adaptor cable that I used in my 2001 PT (2002 and later radios use a single large connector rather that two smaller connectors). The RB-1 does has changer controls, so it may interface directly with the changer in the Prowler.

maskartist	Thanks for the link. Yellow Cat seems to believe that it will work. He says not all functions will work (the steering wheel controls probably), so I will call him and see what advice he can give me. The RB-1 is a great radio - very easy to use navigation and the Sirius is wonderful. The navigation antenna mounts under the dash top so it is invisible. The Sirius antenna would have to go on the trunk lid, but there are some magnetic antennas now, so at least I would not have to drill a hole in the lid! We are in west LA, so I guess we are neighbors. We would love to go cruising sometime. Our Prowler is purple. I need to find a dealer that knows the car and that I can trust. I've been using Buerge in Santa Monica for some warranty work such as the ball joints, but using jiffy lube to change the oil (they don't lift the car). Buerge is ok, and they have a prowler tech, but I myself am looking for the best. Some guys say there's a great service dept for prowlers at a dealership in ontario, but I don't want to drive that far. Ron
Koastal Cat	Just a note: The deck lid is made of Aluminum, thus a magnetic antenna will not stick unless an adhesive is used. Nice looking unit, hope your successful with the install. Kcat
Marty Usher	How does the programming on Sirius compare with XM radio? I should know (but I don't)since one of my fraternity brothers from college just hired his own replacement as CEO at Sirius. I guess I listen to too many audio books and CD's - I really don't use the radio very much. I know several people that have XM and love it but no feedback on Sirius.
maskartist	We have Sirus in two other cars and love it. You pay a reduced rate for additional subscriptions in the same family (if you buy one of the transportable receivers, you can easily move it from car to car to house and only pay one subscription fee). Sirus is trying to offer programing that is a little different from the XM programing now that XM also has commercial-free music. Sirius exclusively offers the full NFL schedule of games, and has signed Howard Stern to start in 2006. In other areas, the programing is similar, i believe, although I have never had XM so I can't say exactly what other differences there are. Sirus is one of those services (like TIVO) that doesn't seem all that valuable until you have it, and then you wonder how you lived without it.
maskartist	I spoke to Jay (Yellow Cat), and he was extremely helpful. Apparently, the Navigation/Sirius radio will fit into the Prowler with little problem. He told me that the steering wheel controls will no longer work the radio and that the CD changer will need to be exchanged for a newer (but identical looking) model, but otherwise it is an easy addition. He said that the dash bezel requires a very slight amount of trimming in order to fit. I expect to try it this weekend or next, so I will let you know how the transplant goes. Thanks to everyone for your help - this is a great group.

I want a navigation unit, but the RB1 is about $1,200, so I rather get an AVIC-N1, you can get them on ebay for about the same price.
maskartist	I installed the Chrysler Navigation radio over the weekend. The process is pretty simple. The new radio has different mounting holes, so new holes have to be drilled in the dash. The dash is plastic, and I used self-tapping screws to hold the radio. Also, the new radio sticks through the hole in the bezel and is slightly wider than the hole in the bezel. I used a file to widen the opening, and if you were not looking for it, you probably wouldn't notice that the bezel had been modified. If I put the old radio back in, it would be obvious, however. I think the installation looks good. The radio has a factory look to it, and at night the radio controls light up just like all the other dash lettering, so it all matches. The steering wheel controls do not work with this radio, and the changer no longer works, although this radio will play single CDs if you remove the navigation DVD. I think that rather than buying a new changer to replace the original one, I would opt for one of the iPod adaptors that use the radio's changer interface. http://www.dension.com/main.php?pageid=50&topid=42 I took some pictures of the radio installation process and posted them here http://homepage.mac.com/gryphoncorp/PhotoAlbum8.html for anybody who is contemplating something similar.
