| ka-te-el | Hi everyone. Looking for a Prowler and test drove one, but I have a question -- When shifting from first to second in automatic, is it characteristic to get a slight "jolt" or should it shift smoothly? Thanks! |
| ALLEY CAT | You have to be gaining in rpm's to make the shift smooth.
Jolt will occur at same speed/rpm when rolling at a steady speed, from first to second. You got to get it moving!!

| GRROWL | The prowler has an electronically-controlled adaptive transmission, which means that it adjusts to your driving style. The first thing to do after getting a prowler is to disconnect the battery for 15 minutes to reset the computer. Then "train" it the way you want (with the A/C on). Most people here "drive it like they stole it" for the first half-hour to set the transmission to that style of driving. If you drive it gently, I can testify that the first-to-second shift can be silky smooth (although it doesn't start out that way naturally). -GRROWL |
| Chromer | Like AC said, a jolt (klunk) is defintiely in your future if you aren't under meaningful acceleration between 1st and 2nd. I'm a master at extracting painful mechanical grunts from my Prowler transaxle. First time Prowler passengers are usually amazed and sometimes horrified  . I like a "hard" shift. My only regret is that the 2nd to 3rd shift never HITS as hard and the transaxle is not as readily punnished  . If you prefer a soft or mushy shift..you would likely be very happy with a Ford truck offering JMO |
| ed monahan | The purpose of the "hard" shift, as I understand it, is that to make it smoother you have to have a little slippage, hence a lot more wear. The abrupt shift means it goes from first to second with little or no slippage. Remember manual shifting? Feathering the clutch a little to get a smoother start. That is slippage which wears the clutch. Same deal. That is my interpretation. |

| Marty Usher | First I would suggest you reconnect the battery, otherwise you won't be driving very long. Suggestion # 2 would be to drive Westech in Wisconsin and get a stroker motor installed. Then you can spin your tires and do burnouts anytime you want. |
