Larry LordNo promises just yet but I think I've found a new powdercoat process that will fool even the hardcore perfectionists.

Using a newly developed vacuum chamber process in powdercoating, I'm very confident that I'll be able to supply either chrome or black chrome grills at a cost of under $500.00 per grill.

I need a broken or damaged grill to strip and experiment with if anyone has one. If I can't find one, I can use a brand new grill that I have. I just hate to use a new grill one if I can find a junk one.

OrangeI may still have pieces from a broken grill I worked on. If you just need to see how the powder will react with the grill material, you're welcome to have what I can find.

Let me know

In my quest for a decent chrome grill, I would be very interested in this Larry.

I have seen Obi wan's, which is actually from Norb's source, and I think it was done in the way you are talking about. It is just mildly heavier than a stock grill, as compared to the three process chroming I had done from Advanced Plating, which is probably 10 lbs heavier, and much thicker chrome finish to it.

Anyway,,,,, keep us all posted please, sounds like you may be onto something, especially the "under $500" part

I'm not sure about the paint stripping process so yes I would like to get the pieces of your grill if you can find them.
It's pretty hard to strip paint off plastic parts without doing damage to the plastic. We've found a new abrasive that can be shot at low pressure to help control damage to the plastic but I'm not sure how well it will remove the paint.
This new paint process looks very promising. I actually thought the piece I saw had been chromed not powdercoated. Translucent Colors over a chrome powdercoat base will also be an option. I think this will work well for wheels as well as the plastic parts.
Keep your fingers crossed. If it works, chroming will get a run for it's money.

OrangeFound the pieces, they are bigger than I thought they were and should be big enough to see if the process works. I was going to use them for something (don't ask, it's a secret!) but if it will help save a grill in good condition, you can have them.

Here is a pic. The ruler is 6 inches long. If you want this, email me with your address and they will be in the mail tomorrow.

OrangeBy the way, those black dots are just dirt, not holes or scratches.
Larry LordPerfect! Thank you!
Just what I needed.
