| idive | 2 news did a story on this stuff about 2 months ago. Said it worked as reported, but said it was illegal in some places and that law enforcement will come up with a way to avert its use. The thing I don't get is, if it works, but is illegal, and they can't see it, but it blocks them from seeing your plate in a picture, how will they know you are doing something illegal if they can't use your plate to track you down?  |

| TLRandall | I haven't been on patrol in years - it's nice being in the front office! But I do still direct some of the patrol operations - Mickey - most Texas patrol cars are mandated to have dash mounted video cameras to record all traffic stops. The cameras remain in monitor mode so they can always see what is in front of them on the screen. If your plate reflects on their screen, you are getting pulled over and your plate checked! It may not be now - but sooner or later someone is going to cross paths. I don't have to worry about stuff like that - I don't even drive a marked vehicle. | idive | Maybe I wasn't clear about the news story report. They stated that in photographs, like those taken at intersections of people running lights, or at toll booths with nonpayers, that the plate will not show up in the photographs. They also stated that this spray would still allow police units to continue to see your plate. They sprayed a plate and showed it worked as advertised. Thus, a police dash camera would still allow the plate to be seen on the screen even tho the plate has been sprayed. |

| idive | I don't know what it costs, but its available at parts stores. As for Buckets Pusser, he hasn't written me up yet for my inspection sticker being 1 1/2 years out of date, or my registration sticker being 2 years out of date (I have this sticker - just haven't put it on), so I'm not afraid of his guns. It's all the other gentlemen of the badge that I have to watch out for.  |
| halicat | at night black spray paint works just as good, they think your plate light is burnt out and wont pull ya over for that...especially in the rain..... or when its cold.... or if they are eating donuts.. or if there is something good on the radio. |

Fox TV's investigative team in conjunction with Denver, Colorado police department tested Phantomplate.com’s products. They tested the PhotoBlocker spray, the Reflector and PhotoShield license plate cover. The verdict is in; ALL our products are effective. This is what they actually said… "It is no scam ... several companies these days market products that claim to legally blind those automatic cameras. The question is do they really work? Fox 5’s Michael Gargiulo puts them to the test ... the red light cameras are credited with snapping up an extra $20 million in fines for the city ... spurring some to try inventive ways of beating the system ... products that actually claim to out smart the cameras ... Will they make your tag invisible? ... Denver police department agreed to put them to the test. They examined a total of three products. Did they work? Here is a photo form the test drive. The first plate cover looks like a prism (PhotoShield) and it is supposed to distort plate numbers when it viewed form an angle. It fared well. Notice some of the plate numbers are invisible. The second plate cover, the Reflector has reflective sparkles and it did a better job. The flash reflected off the sparkles so the plate number was way over exposed in the picture. Now the third product is that PhotoBlocker spray ... that is surprisingly effective. It puts a high gloss finish on your plate. Which causes a reflection. That makes the plate over exposed and unreadable .... The question is." Is it legal?" ... It is practically impossible for police to spot plates that have been treated with the reflective spray. And in many jurisdiction there is no specific rule that says your tag must be photogenic." And what does Denver Police department have to say .... " What we did is we went out to the Denver Police driving track and we set up a simulated a 20 mile an hour speed limit ... These products may increase your odds ..." on avoiding a ticket. Capt. | TLRandall | I love giving you guys a hard time!  I will go on record as saying I do not believe in the use of traffic cameras for what most cities are using them for - REVENUE! If they think they are having trouble with folks running red lights, put a traffic cop out there and let him write WARNINGS and some tickets to those repeat offenders. That's the beauty of working for a Sheriff's Office. We are an elected office, so we answer to the will of the people, and our main duties are not traffic enforcement. I have not written a full book of tickets in my 25 years, but I do supervise the Fugitive Division, and my team an I have put away tens of thousands (yes, that many) of REAL bad guys that have done a lot more than speeding and rolling through stop lights.
