Dave MaddyI have a trailor hitch to install tomorrow. I have searched for previous discussion regarding this and have not found any. Who can help me? What is the best way to drill the 1 1/8" hole? What drill bit do I buy?
obi-wanHi, I'm obi-was(Scott Curtis) I've been working on prowlers for almost 4 years now and inst. a number of hitches. Use a METAL CUTTING hole saw 1 1/8" dia. These can be purchased at any GOOD hardware store. You'll also need a mandral to go with the hole saw. Your going to use the hole in the hitch as a hole guide so adj. the drill in the mandral to just stick out past the cutting blades of the hole sew so the saw will pertude inside the large hole in the hitch and align the drill to the aprox. center of the hole your going to drill. Be sure the hitch is bolted in place and sung up against the frame on the bottom and the back, just as it will be when the hitch is all inst. If you have access to a grinder or a belt sander take the nut-tabs that fit inside the frame and grind the edges that stick out beyond the nuts off-I also paint these with touch-up paint so the won't rust. After they dry I slip them inside the frame. This makes it easy to slip them into place-sometimes they get stuck part way in. It's verry nice to have a helper to assist with the bumpers, both off and on. They can also hand you tools you forgot to take under the kat and look at the alignment of the bumpers while you tighten them back into place. Hope all this helped! There are also other things that would be nice to do to the hitch prior to inst. such as completing the welde properely that the factory did not and maby making end caps to properely close off the ends of the horz. tubing. If you want piticulars contact me but it will mean you can"t but it on today. Best of luck. Obi-wan

Just a prowler owner wannabe...but not for long.

Dave MaddyThe new Kat was received and is everything I expected. The dealer was true to his word. Never bought a car sight unseen before.
CTProwlerI don't remember any 1 1/8" hole being drilled on my hitch install at my dealer?????

ed monahanChuck, you have to drill the frame. It is basically a box, the nuts have to go inside the frame "box".
