Lee SylvesterService bulletin 09-002-03, group: engine, date: march 14, 2003

This bulletin involves decarbonizing the combustion chamber and installing new exhaust valve springs. 1999-2002.

Dealer is suggesting that these repairs should be made if engine begins to misfire. I would assume this begins after your engine has carboned up. (too late!) Repair procedure involves decarbonizing procedure and replacing exhaust valve springs (p/n 04892082AA). I have a copy of the service bulletin that clearly indicates that Prowler engines are involved. I personally would like to have the exhaust valves replaced prior to my engine being full of carbon. Does anyone else have any information or experience with this problem? I am not anxious to have my engine opened up with only a few thousand miles but maybe it would be better now than later.
Thanks
Lee

MDProwlerIf it's a TSB they will do nothing unless you have a problem. Not the same as a recall. I'll take my chances. I'd rather not have them tear into my engine this soon anyway.

idiveI think it is Rich Diamond "RADKAT" that is going thru this right now. Sorry if I'm wrong. You might email him at theinterconnect@ev1.net
Does your TSB state what year model Prowlers are involved?

ken736ccIt sounds as if using a combustion chamber cleaner added to fuel is a good idea. I would want to avoid having the cyl. heads removed. Do any of you auto techs have any thoughts on fuel additives?
ETMIDZT4 oz. transmission fluid to every 1-Gal. of gas! I do this every 4th -5th fill up on my LHS & GM truck & Lincoln!!
Lee SylvesterService Bulletin 09-002-03

I'm not having any engine problems yet. But if this carbon problem is going to show up eventually, then I would prefer to replace the exhaust valve springs now. I'm not sure that Chrysler would perform service bulletin work out of warranty. Since some owners have very low mileage, warranty could expire before the problem shows up. I talked with someone at Chrysler today who was very rude and argumentative and assured me that these repairs would not be made by Chrysler as a preventive measure. I am discussing this matter with local dealer and district rep next week, also confirming which engines are involved. I will post more as soon as I have more information.
Thanks-
Lee
