fixummsome one had there lower ball joint replaced and they scratched there clear on the lower control arm so he wants it replaced.....he got a new one but it is bare.Anyone know if they are just cleared or is there some color under the clear. any help wood be apresheated
idiveIt sounds to me that you are talking about a 97 or 99 model Prowler. They had smooth shiney clearcoated arms. The later years had dull rough non-clearcoated arms. The old arms are NOT available any longer. I would say that they replaced it with a later model arm. If they clearcoat that one, it will be as good as you can get, but will not be an exact match. They scratched (GOUGED) mine too, on my 97, and it could not be replaced. They brought in an outside vendor to wet sand and re-clearcoat it. He couldn't sand enough to take out the gouge totally, but got it down SOME. Then clearcoated it over. I wasn't happy with it, but had no other option if I wanted to keep the original arms. He said it would be dry enough to drive home in about an hour, but that it took 4 hrs to dry completely. I waited the 4 hrs so no road dirt or bugs would get into the clearcoat. I had to go back the next day to let him buff it up.

Gary CAs I understand it the replacement arms will be different from the 97-99 arms, the location point on the lower arm for the strut is different location than the original arm, take some measurements just to be sure.......

John, another problem might be the ride height. The latter models have the strut rod mount in a different location. Check before installing to see if they are the same. I would say they need to be changed as a pair when going from the early lower control arm to the later.

From what I have been told, they were made by different manufacturers and out of different aluminum alloy.

Find a used control arm off someone that had the early style if going to change would be the best bet. Perfect time to upgrade to chrome, check with cnote and see if he still has the set he had on ebay.

cmblockhusFrom what I understand the control arms are powered coated

MeanGeneFixee,

Curtis is right...they were powdercoated clear and the mount locations are different.
