Kevin AI know this has been discussed on POA before and I did search the topic, but here we go again.

My current insurance company is Liberty Mutual and they will not touch a Prowler. I contacted Grundy and they were $450/year for PLEASURE use only (no commuting, business use, shopping trips...) which is a rate I can live with. It bothers me a little that they quote without much of a background check on me like the "big guys". Not that I want them looking in my relatively clean past, but it seems like that is how rates are based these days.

Has anyone had to make a claim with someone like Grundy? Are there other carriers with low rates like this? Any personal stories or suggestions?

Thanks for keeping this great forum alive! Kevin

purplecatOur vette is insured by American Collectors Insurance.

This is for an agreed value, limited miles, not left unattended,...etc. Not ideal for a car that is driven more often.

Other carriers previously listed include:
Farmers, State Farm, USAA, Geico.

Or try Progressive, get a few quoes at once.
JMO

CatwatchingIm with GEICO

$10 more than my 1996 eagle vision per 6 month term. Not Bad

Kevin AThe little research I have done seems to indicate that these "collector car" insurers don't like you to do things like actually drive your car unless it is to an event of some sort. Is that true?
purplecatThat is the ways is:

1. No one under 25 or 30 (don't remember which)
2. Cannot leave unattended in parking lot, therefore no restaurants or shopping (except car shows)
3. No driving to work
4. 2500 mile limit

I think these policies are to restrictive for the Kat which is way to fun to drive. Shop around. If you don't plan to drive it that much, maybe this is the way to go.

If you plan on driving it a lot, it would be safer to have a full policy.

We were surprised in '01 to find out that the Kat ins. was only $20/six months more than the '93 Suburban we traded for it.

viperrtJust renewed with Allstate (San Diego) area. My '01 Prowler was $222 (rated on 4,000 miles per year), the '96 Viper was $369 (rated on 6,000 miles per year), and the '99 Dakota R/T was $271 (rated on 12,000 miles per year). All these premiums are for six months.

Good luck.

ARTHAVE SOME STIPULATIONS BUT I PAY 343.00 A YEAR AND WORKS GREAT FOR ME......... WWW.LELANDWEST.COM

JRLGrundy is a very good honest company.
Jim Grundy, (who I know) is an enthusiast
I've had a couple of claims with them including a theft this past year.
As long as you play by their rules they pay instantly with no hassle at all, but NEVER tell them you went shopping or anything like that or they WILL deny coverage. I've had experience at both.
Several years ago my wife was driving a Porsche Cab that we had, and the top got slashed.
She made the mistake of telling them she stopped at the pharmacy and the WAWA ( 7/11 type store) and we were denied. Fortunatly my broker never had told me about this little clause and he and I worked it out.
Otherwise I recommend Chubb/Grundy as they are first class people.

JRLAmerican Collectors is good too, Geico sucks and are generally anti enthusist!

Kevin AThanks for the great replies. I am assuming the low rates I am seeing here are for Prowlers that are listed on policies as "third" cars or generally not used daily. Do you stipulate that with the insurance carrier? Thanks!
ALLEY CATIf it is your second or third driver,,,they should know that, because you are getting a multi-car discount. Stating that your annual mileage is low on the cat, should bring down the rate?
Kevin AI called my insurance company (Liberty Mutual) on their national toll free line and amazingly they will provide a great rate quote. But when I told the operator that my local agent said they don't write Prowlers she checked with her supervisor. She came back and said that they will NOT underwrite a Prowler even though she gave me a quoted firm price! Just imagine if I had made a car purchase based on the quote (less $$ than my '02 Sebring LTD) and then be told after the fact I have no insurance!
indy96I've had Grundy for years with my Road Runner..never had a claim (thank goodness) but they are very liberal abiout mileage, etc. I agree that they "exclude" shopping centers, etc. (unless there's a show) Proformance Ins in NJ only hiked muy rate $157.00 over my wife's 300M because of expense to repair (no restrictions).
idiveI'm a little lost here... Every agreed value, mileage limit, can't leave unattended insurance agency I have talked to have specifically stated the car can't be left unattended even at a car show, cause while you're off looking at other cars, someone comes by and damages yours. These posts here indicate you can't leave the car unattended except at car shows??? Now, I haven't talked to Grundy, but this doesn't make sense to me.

Kevin AI just spoke to a Grundy sales rep and he says that it is perfectly fine to use a car daily with their coverage as long as it is for pleasure use. Even stopping at a store to do quick shopping is OK, just don't leave it for a few hours at a Mall. Even leaving it parked for a nice dinner is OK. If you are doing pleasure driving and want to stop for a bite to eat, run in and do quick shopping, etc... you are covered.

Anyone have a different experience or info? Thanks!

GUBKevin, I just took a look at my renewal Allstate policy. I have been with Allstate here ih Florida for almost 15 years and have had all good experiences with them when it was needed. I do understand because of a high theft rate and a mass of horrible drivers Florida is very high on insurance. So, keeping that in mind my six month premium for my 1998 Jeep Grand Cher. 5.9 is $698.00, I drive it about 40,000 miles a year. It has about 160,000 now and runs great. My Prowler with the same coverage , uninsured motoristand liability, yada yada yada is $700.That's about $1400 for 6 months and I can drive, park, eat all I want ...I'm single by the way!!! It's piece of mind that I pay extra for I'm sure...hope this high side helps.... Regards, Sandy Gub's
