"Drive = Love"Prowler Did somebody set a speed record at Bonneville? FL Blue Kat I sure don't know. I was living in Northern Scotland at the time. Not much for cars in that neck of the woods. Kraut Guessing here ...... but that would have been 1976. Let's see, could it have been the Arab oil embargo? Chromer The first of six production years of the finest car ever made, the AMC Pacer?! spoons 27 yrs ago to this very day Cadillac manufactured "the last convertible in America". It was a 1976 Eldorado. It took over 6 years before Chrysler's saviour Lee Iacocca wanted to spruce up the image of his newly rescued company, he brought out the 1982 Chrysler LeBaron convertible. Iacocca hoped-for first year LeBaron convertible sales of 3000 ended up being 23,000. Other manufacturers were quick to follow. After a nearly 6 year hiatus, American manufacturers were again making convertibles. Iacocca was a double hero; he had not only saved Chrysler, he had revived the glamorous convertible.

"Drive = Love"Dale Beaman SPOONS, Do you know what was one of the coolest things about the convertible deal? Lee said he would take deposits for the first production run and got enough money to pay for the tooling. Demand was so great that it made a profit before they were made! Everyone thought he was taking a big risk but just like he said about the mini van "it was a home run"! ALLEY CAT In 1971 while working with Ford, I had the honor of having lunch with Mr. I. Besides finding him to be abrasive in nature, I could see that this man had visions and knew how to turn those visions into profits. He might have made a great politician,,,,,,,,,,,,,if it paid better
