Dead End DonI had to have mine smogged last August when it was shipped to CA from Texas. The first 3 shops didn't have a spec on the car (it wasn't even in their book). The 4th shop was able to take care of it, but I don't think they could find a Prowler spec, either, and used the specs from one of the other cars sharing the same engine.

I was surprised at what a hassle it was, for a production car...

CWatsonJrJD - I had to have mine smogged because it was shipped from Idaho. It was no problem and passed without a problem. I don't think you will have a problem if you don't give them any information... they have no idea how the car is supposed to be equipped, other than what the labels say under the hood.

Todd CameronYep, same thing here. They (in my experience) just plug it in by what the under the hood specs are. Going to be "rough" for those of us who chromed or polished that piece later.
jd2ksilverI'm glad I kept those spec pieces. Actually I had new sent to me.
Thanks, for the info people.

Anyone had a smog with a supercharger yet?

RBADKATJD, I belive your only hope might be that Rudy see's your post.
He might have your answer, I had mine registered in Arizona and don't have to worry about it. I like others believe that they really don't care what you put on the car, so long as CAT Converters have not been removed and that you have the spec sheet. (JMO).
Good luck.

purplecatJD,
Sorry no supercharger here, but mine was shipped from TX to CA when we got it. So it had to be smogged to register.

The main problem we had was finding a shop that would do the smog on it. Everyone was afraid to touch it. 4 shops with male techs would not touch the car. Finally Rita, yes a female said sure and it passed with no problems.

Good luck, let us know what happens.
Dawn

1buddyc Smog check.....What's that? (heh-heh!!)
Marc-Colo-99John
I know our's aren't the same set up but I had to get mine certified last fall. It passed the emissions without the cats but failed the visual (for lack of cats). Had a shop fabricate a piece with low profile cats that fit where we removed the Y pipe from. Drove 3 blocks to emissions station, passed, drove back to shop and replaced the Y pipe. I'm keeping the fabricated piece for the next time. Give me a call if you need more info.

BeWare I had mine smog checked here in GA with the Mac Intake installed. I removed the EGR bypass a block away from the test station and put the cricualtion hose back in place. I also went to the trouble of getting copies of the smog diagram because I had my brace painted. It was all a waste of time on my part. The guy didn't even lift the hood. I don't even think he checked for Cats. Car passed no prblems
Gary CIf I really remember this correctly a Texas SC Cat w/o cats has passed the tests in Texas, JD, find one of those independent shops and pick the guys brain without your cat there and try to make freinds and then maybe he can give you some inside info,,, When I was in Cali and used two different guys, they both said to run the car warm and in the heat of the day, which to me doesn't make sense...heck ask him if he took do a practice run to see if you pass, the guy in Fallbrook said I could if I needed it, of course it will cost ya....

Just remember, the test is done at a very low speed and the SC shouldn't be a factor

Good Luck
John

BTW, no smog tests in Indiana, no cats needed, 20 more ponys...

ed monahanThey recommend warming the car up because it then burns the fuel more efficiently. If you have to sit in line and wait it is all in vain.
We have inspections every two years. I got collector plates which eliminates the need for the inspection. What a joke the entire process really is.
jd2ksilverThanks all, appreciated.

------------------

YellowFeverHere is my take on inspections in ANY state. All it really is is a source of revenue for that county. It has nothing to do with inspections or smog or anything other then collecting money from you.

All an inspection shows you is that at that precise time, your car passed.

You can drive it out of the inspection parking lot and the mufflers fall off and you still have a good inspection sticker for 1-2 years.

It's kinda like the "required" insurance you have to have in Texas on cars. Some folks pay monthly for a policy and once they get their insurance car (ie. the first month) they then cancel the policy and the card makes it look like they have insurance for 6 months to a year.
