SupervetteI see most of you keep up on the comings and goings of prowlers for sale. How do you feel on the differences in the prices. I mean it seems to me like some of the people selling them think they are worth one number, and when you see what some of you and people at like say ebay are offering for them there is quite a bit of a gap. Some of these being offered have rather high milage too. What would you say are reasonable number for each year? 97,99,00,01,02????
Dale BeamanPricing is a crazy thing on Prowlers. I found mine (2001 Silver) at a Ford Dealer who had taken it in on a new Exploader (those things that the tires keep blowing up on!). It only had 4,300 miles, winter coming, been sitting on the lot for 3 months and the dealer was ready to let it go! I made a wild offer and he said YES!! My experience says the first digit should be a 2 ($2x,xxx). I wouldn't sell it for $8,000 more than I paid. So it depends if you are buying from a dealer or an individual.

------------------

CTProwlerI just bought mine (2002) late Oct with 1200 miles for $37500. The sticker is around $45000. Thats $7500. below sticker. I'm Happy!! I feel i could sell it in a few years and not loose alot of money. (Not planning on selling it). I didn't buy it as an investment, I have always liked them since they came out. I've been buying real estate, building homes for 20 yrs. There is a buyer for everything, the question is do you want to wait for that person to come along who will pay your price? I've owned alot of cars, had to have it, after a yr or 2 I seem to want something different!!! Not this prowler! I'm keeping it, i've told myself, not this time. I wish i still owned the 1975 Trans AM $5300.00 out the door--or the 73 vette, 87 vette, etc. But your answer is everyone thinks their things are worth more than they usually are. Ebays prices are lower than Autotraders, why- good question. Ebayers are looking for bargains!!
YellowFeverI bought a new 2002 yellow (7 or 10 miles on the OD) for $38K and the dealer (about 350 miles away) trucked it to my front door for free.

The had a new 2001 mulholland for $34K at the time (Aug 2002) also.

Bidding on eBay (which is a good general rule of thumb) range from mid $20's to $30's depending on the car, mileage, and year. Bidding seriously slows down (or stops) at that point more often then not.

Rarity doesn't seem to matter either as a new 2001 Black-Tie (only 163 made) was listed 2-3 times on eBay and never sold at $35K (without a reserve price).

Wish it was different or like it was in 97 and these things fetched up to $150K a pop but, that is ALONG way off, if it ever returns.

ProwlerOne difference between eBay and Autotrader is that eBay prices reflect actual bids by someone wanting to buy the car and Autotrader shows asking prices. Everyone knows that the true value of anything is only what someone is willing to pay for it.

Duane CurtoI bought my 2001 (Orange) for $ 38,500 with 350 miles. The dealer was asking $41,000, sticker is 43,000.
I think it's only worth what someone will pay for it.
If your happy with the car and did not buy it as an investment, that's what counts.
CTProwlerProwler--excellant point.

------------------

SupervetteI understand it is what ever somebody is willing to pay, I was just wondering if it was just me being to cheep or some of the sellers asking too much. I agree with all of you, this is a one of a kind car, and in all reallity it is a limited production car, which should fetch a higher price. But I guess unless you own one ( which I do not as of now ) the average joe just does not understand or appreciate the car.

Are you sure of that?????? Unless the orange sticker was lower then all the others, that can't be right.

tangled up in BLUEBest I remember, my 2001 orange Kats MSRP was $45K...I had several 2000 Kats that stickered for $43K, $43,4 and I think $43,6...there were several different prices on 2000 Kats...
ed monahanSupervette, one other possibility in the equation is the location. Although now with the internet the prices should be more consistent from one area to another, they do not seem to be consistent. The dealers in Cal. were way higher on their prices so if someone paid $ 65,000 for a new one two years ago out there they probably think that it is worth $ 50,000 now if they have not been active on this site or looking at prices. If they decide to sell they are shocked. The reality is that they overpaid initially and are not going to get their money back now. You don't lose any money until you sell it. I am keeping mine.
SupervetteI agree with you Ed, I'm sure a lot had paid a good number originally, and now are not too in tune with the market. It is very hard to let something go for so much less than you paid for it, especially if mods and custom work are involved. I know that all too well, I have a drag racing motorcycle I have over $ 35,000 in over the last few years and would be lucky to sell it for $ 6000 now.

The one thing about mods, if they are not listed in NADA or Kelley as options, they are not going to make the car worth more.

It's not to say you can't find a buyer who will appreciate thoes things, it just may take alot longer to find that right person.

Also, when you do find them, if they are not paying cash for the vehicle, they may have a rough time getting it financed. (ie. Say blue book loan value is $25K and they are asking $65K with all the extras). Most banks would not give a lon for much more then the $25K figure meaning, in this example, they would have to come up with $40K.

I always tell friends, if you have to modify your car, save the original parts. That way, if you ever sell the vehicle, you can return it to stock and sell the other parts inventory on eBay.

Duane CurtoYF,
You're right. my sticker was $ 45,300. Don't know what I was thinking.
