Bill WatsonTo the number of cars in the United States, what percent of them are Prowlers?

I feel we are the lucky few to own Prowlers. They don't have to be perfect, they just need to be Prowlers. It's not just a car, it's an experience!

Bill
2002 Inka Gold
2002 Candy Apple Red

ALLEY CAT.00001% of 1 percent

What did I win?

Black Tie 161Did you hear about the constipated mathemetician?

He worked it out with a pencil.

Thank you ladies and germs...I'll be here all week, try the veal and be sure to tip your bartenders and waitresses...

Marty UsherActually the figure of Prowler production vs the approx. 134,000,000 cars registered in the US is closer to .008%. I wonder if that registration figure of 134,000,000 vehicles includes light trucks? I'll have tro research it more.
ed monahanMarty, I think you need remedial math class. One percent of 134 Million would be 1 million, 340 Thousand. You are saying that it is 4/5 of that.

134,000,000
x .01
___________
1,340,000

You need to add some zeroes.

Ed - 134,000,000
x .00008 (.008%)
-----------
10,720.00

Another way 11,697/134,000,000 is equivalent to x/100

11697 x 100 divided by 134,000,000 = .008%

You forgot the two decimal point positions for the %. At least I think I am correct. At least my math is closer than Alley Cats!!

Marty

From figures that I have seen... the number of registered vehicles in the U.S. is currently well over 200 million...

When you crunch the numbers, roughly 1 in 20,000 registered vehicles in the U.S. is a Prowler.

ed monahanMarty it is .00008. Why are you dropping the first two zeroes? you multiplied it by .00008, which is correct and then put .008 as the answer. .008 is just less than 1% or 4/5 of 1 %. 1% is .01.
ALLEY CATHey dudes,,,,,,I'm close then
Marty UsherDamon - 200,000,000 sounds like it could be the correct number. The internet source I quoted the 134,000,000 listed CARS registered in US. That is why I had posted I wondered if it included light trucks.

Ed - Regarding the math - Lord knows I was not a math major and could be wrong but I moved the decimel two places or added two zeros, however you want to look at it, because the figure .008 was of 1 percent. The percent accounts for the extra two zeros. .008% and .00008 are the same number .

Example 100 x 1% is 1.0 100 x .01 is also 1.0

ed monahanMike, can you make this next week's poll? lol
ed monahanMarty, I apologize, you are correct. I asked Sandy last night and she said you were correct. (so I cut her off for two weeks to teach her a lesson). I totally forgot about the fact of moving two decimals. It has been almost 50 years since we had that in grade school and I read your latest explanation and went, hmm, that sounds about right. I was thinking two decimals for $ 1. and cents.
Marty UsherEd - of course I am not as OLD as you. It has only been 30 something years since my school days. So, before I posted the explanation I checked with my 17 year old daughter to make sure of the calculations. Regardless of the decimal point, we - PROWLER OWNERS - are certainly a minority!
