ed monahanI need a little feedback from anyone who bought tires from Tire Rack or from CNote or anyone else and then had them mounted locally.
What did you pay to have the tires mounted and balanced? What do they use to weight them when they balance them?
What type of equipment do they need, what do I want to check out IN ADVANCE to avoid a bad day.
Thanks for any input.

I think the most important thing is to follow the instructions for removing the sensor so as not to damage it while removing the tire it must be unbolted and droped into the tire before the bead is broken so as not to damage it, dont let them loose the valve core use the same ones and when starting the new tire make sure the lip wont hit the sensor your local dealer can print the mounting instructions for you, my weaights are the stick on and it takes a ton for the run flats,

Andy RHey Ed, give me a call if you want me to copy or fax those pages from my service manual.
RogerEd, its a good tip sheet that DC prepared on breaking down and mounting the tires. 2 pages and I think Dan Pena can send you a link and you can print it.

ed monahanI had the tires mounted today. Two young guys were working on it. I took the center caps off myself. They said they always just used a screwdriver. I told the manager that the sensor had to be taken off before breaking the bead. I caught them just in time. They explained they do lots of Vettes and they break the bead first. They were afraid to drop the sensor into the tire, afraid they would hit it with the machine. We got that settled after about a 2 minute discussion.
They actually did do a good job and tried to please me and did what I asked. I told them no tightening the lugs with the gun. He explained he had to torque them for insurance. I had taken a 4 way spinner with me and tightened them up myself and told them I would put the center cap back on when I had some soapy water. I think everything is fine and they were very critical of whoever had balanced the tire the last time since there were weights all over the rim, including inside the spokes. I had two rims replaced and cannot remember which rear rim got replaced. It was the left front and one rear. Anyway, thanks for the assistance. If you have it done, stay right there and watch them since they know the best way, the way they always do it. lol.

Don't know if the instructions you got form Dan P covered the Torque on the wheel lug nuts? They need to be Torque at 100 FT lbs. Better safe than sorry. Your four spoke lug wrench good for quick on and off but you should torque to be safe.
I also stayed with mine when I had work done on tires. I must have been lucky, they did not remove sensors, they started breaking tire on opposite side and worked in both directions towards sensor, b4 they got to sensor the tire could then be broken by hand. I did not see in manual about removal, but next time will be safe and ask to have removed.

ed monahanDan, I will keep an eye on the lug nuts. I never have lost a wheel in 42 years of driving and I never torqued them before. I figure I get them pretty tight and I do not want a warped rotor because of an air gun. I HAVE had that before. They were breaking the tire about 90 degrees away from the sensor in both directions and it may have worked out but I had read about two other mishaps and did not want to chance it.
