padrooI am looking for a 2002 Prowler TPMS receiver module. I have a 1999 Prowler and I want to upgrade to the newer style. The sensors are cheaper for the 2002 Prowler. I am installing new tires on re-chromed rims and I am looking into the newer system.

I'm also going to do this, asked at the tire store and they said they could get it, so I'm going to check at napa

jwallisI did that last spring when I got new tires, got the new TPMS from my local dealer and the sensors from Tire Rack.
u00tjs2Where did you get the rims rechromed - Were these original Kat rims? Assume you were satisfied with the chrome plating? Thanks Happy New Year...

katmatI went w/ the tpms Orange system. It was about $120.00 on Amazon. Now I know the the pressure/temp. of each tire. System comes with 4 new sensors & the monitor.

I bought a set of wheels used from 1BuddyC a member of this site and he shipped them to Fast Forward Wheel in California. I paid $1000 to have them show quality chromed including shipping from California to Indiana. Mine came out perfect but several people including Wildcat from this site had bad results so I cannot recommend them anymore. Sorry!
However 1BuddyC has a great reputation and has helped me out on other things I had trouble with and he goes that extra mile. I do highly recomend him as a supplier of parts.

That is a great deal and I thought of going that way but some of the reviews were not great and I have experience with the system Chrysler uses on the Prowler. Obviously you have had good luck with yours. I like the individual tire warnings and even the temp. info. I have never owned a car that gave me all that info even my 2008 Prius just give you a warning that a tire is low. I have though of adding it to some of my older cars. Schrader I believe has an aftermarket system as well as others. Schrader made the originals for the Prowler I think.

I found the Schrader aftermarket kit.

ed monahanI had a set of rims done by Fast Forward and they came back pretty bad and I was not happy with the response I got from him, either. A lot of money for a job not very well done.
padrooEd, I knew there were others who had bad luck with Fast Forward, Wildcat will chime in when he sees this I am sure.

How long have you had yours?

I went with this system too, about 2 years ago. Really liked it when it it was working. Now 2 of the 4 sensors are dead. Don't really feel like going to the trouble of replacing them.

Because of me, they said they will not do any more prowler wheels, so those of you wanting your wheels chromed can either thank me for not being disappointed and out a set of wheels and for me $1,264.00 or complain to me you have to find someone who will do the work.

Maybe some are not as picky about their chrome as I am, but the ones FF did do not compare to the ones on my car now. Too bad they are 15 years old and one slightly bent.

I think I'm going to put the new tires on my old rims since they look better.

And their warranty, forget it. If they screw up that bad and send them out and say they look great, they do not know what SHOW CHROME IS! ! !

I'm going to go with the factory sensors for a 2002 so I don't have to add a display in the car. I do like the aftermarket that tells you each tire pressure and temp. The way they program the factory unit should be able to at least tell you what tire

My mustang has a read out that says low tire, but when programming you have to do it in proper order. I know the cat just has a low tire light, but they could have gave you read out also.

Oh well, when my light comes on 99 times out of a hundred it is my left front tire low, think I have porosity in the wheel.

padrooI just did some looking around and found this about when the TPMS were installed on cars in the US. It States,

In the United States, TPMS was introduced by General Motors in March 1997 for the 5th generation (C5) Corvette in conjunction with Goodyear run flat tires.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tire-pressure_monitoring_system

They didn't mention the Prowler but it also says it was used in Europe on the Porsche 959 in 1986.

The system has obviously advanced in technology since them with more advanced features.

catfishtire gauge 3.00-have we really become that lazy.

------------------

padrooI like the fact that if you have a slow leak you get an early warning and fix the problem before it leaves you stranded some where in the dark in bad weather and even a bad neighborhood. TPMS and a tire gauge go hand in had, it is not one or the other. Most people don't own a tire gauge and the ones that do only use them when a low tire is obvious and with a run flat that isn't even the case.

Is everyone aware that some new vehicles have a TPMS mounted in the spare tire? You can get a light and it might actually be the spare that is low.

catfishso you never ck.your tire pressure with a gauge.

------------------

beachcatDale, I had a TPM in the spare on a jeep liberty. I think if it's a full size spare, you get the extra monitor.
padrooThis is what I said.

" TPMS and a tire gauge go hand in had, it is not one or the other."

I carry a gauge in all the vehicles I drive. TPMS don't replace a tire gauge and a tire gauge will never replace a TPMS at least not yet.

WildCatA little off topic but still on the topic

One reason for the tire pressure sensor is the run flat tires do not look low

BUT because of driver error and self service gas stations they have been mandated by our government due to the firestone explorer problems

THIS IS MY OPINION ONLY

99% of all the rollovers were due to people driving a high center of gravity vehicle with under inflated tires and over correcting when it went flat causing the rollover

IF they had been driving with tires properly inflated they would not have the issues. IF they were driving the SUV like the truck it actually was instead of the sports car they thought it was, it would not have happened

And yes most people are LAZY, or just do not know how to maintain a vehicle. Years ago when I worked at the gas station we checked the oil, battery water, tire air pressure, FULL SERVICE, today, do it yourself. I have needed a tire gauge and didn't have one with me, try and get one at a gas station today.

I try to keep one in each car. Had a light come on in Sues van, checked with one of my tire gauges, then wasn't satisfied with the readings so checked with another and it was 4lbs different.

So where can you buy a tire gauge not made in China that is good?

I like the sensors in the newer tires because it is harder to look at them and see if they are low like the older tires.

MY 2 CENTS

padrooI had one of my rear tires off this summner to plug it and with no air in the tire I looked at the right rear and it didn't look low. Those sidewalls in the run flats are very stiff.

Dale check out post made by Brian Richardson AKA spoons back in 07 on converting the older style sensor to new

Newer TPMS 4815227AD

use with TPS Mopar # 4815-227-AE

or Manufacturer Schrader-Bridgeport 20028

Brian had to go to dealer to have the unit programmed, but worked correctly. Maybe he will chime in and let us know if they have needed changed in the past few years since he did this in 07.
