warmncoolI have a friend who never changes his oil in any of his cars, he only changes the oil filter every 3k miles. He says he has done this for years also in his race car [dirt track], never had a problem. He says oil does not break down. Anyone ever heard of this??
Gary CIf he ran a Mobil filter yes,,,,if not no,,,,,,,
Randy CobbOil DOES breakdown.
Heat and age are the biggest contributors to breakdown.
Breakdown lessens the lubricity.

But more importantly, oil captures engine contaminants such as chemicals and metal particles. How can you remove these contaminants without replacing the oil? Yes replacing the filter is a major part of it, but just one of the two parts.

sexlessapeEven if he didn't change the oil, I'm sure that he had to add new oil into the vehicles. On most of my old cars I had to put in an extra quart if I changed the oil filter compared to when I didn't change it. Engines also burn a certain amount of oil during regular operation.

I did have a friend that had to put in one quart every other time he filled up his gas tank, so he never changed the oil...the engine kind of did it for him. But he spent a lot of money in oil

warmncoolHe says he tops off the oil [Mobil one]..He also has torn the engines down on a couple of them and finds them clean as a whistle.
firegabeour BMW's have a computer that tells you when to change the oil depending on how you drive, and how long oil has been there time wise. My M Roadster goes 12-14K in-between oil changes. My mom has the V 12 in her 7 series and She will only change it when the computer says so.

How ever I do it personally every 3k.

Ditto. I don't understand how he hasn't had any problems. Racing a car on a dirt track is even worse.
