prowler emil | What are the exact dimensions of our door speakers? I've searched and it seems its a 6.5" or 6.75" speaker, but what is the mounting depth? I will be trying to find other speakers that come 'stock' on other cars that would fit in our doors. Before everyone tells me to get the inifinity speakers, I'm looking for a speaker with a paper cone so I can actually hear the lower frequencies--unfortunately all aftermarket plastic cone speakers don't hit the low freq. So |
phil2237 | Buy the Kappa's Infinity 63.9i Bolts right in , no drilling needed.Sounds good also. |
idive | Depth from mounting ring on the speaker to bottom of magnet is 2 1/8". Mounting diameter is 6 3/4" |
kb7obj | i just replaced mine with the kappa 63.9's and i hate them. factory speakers sounded much better for the bottom end punch |

Thanks for reading the post in its entirety, could've saved yourself some time..... quote: Originally posted by idive: Depth from mounting ring on the speaker to bottom of magnet is 2 1/8". Mounting diameter is 6 3/4"
Thank you--exact info I was looking for! quote: Originally posted by kb7obj: i just replaced mine with the kappa 63.9's and i hate them. factory speakers sounded much better for the bottom end punch
Agreed. Aftermarket (plastic cone) speakers are great for the mids and highs--great clarity and loudness, however just cannot flex like the stock paper cone speakers that most cars come with from the factory. Without getting a new sub, it will never sound the same. A lot of newer cars are coming out with reliable paper cone speakers that would be great replacements. Now the research begins...

Ken & Roslin Romain | That is the first BAD thing I've heard about the Kappa's. We have put in no less then a dozen sets for our local owners, and they all love them. I've had mine in for several years, the difference between original and Kappa's is like day and night. |

I have to agree with Ken, huge difference compared to the oem's |
Jim C | They pretty much are all plastic cones nowadays mainly because the paper and foam outer ring disintegrate Good luck on your search... This message has been edited by Jim C on 07-18-2011 at 05:09 PM |
Greg and Veta | You might try these speakers by Planet audio http://www.amazon.com/Planet-Audio-AP625-6-5-Inch-Treated/dp/B002QUZHRS or you could buy exact replacement speakers but they go for about $65 each. |
prowler emil | Nobody said anything bad about the kappa speakers. Please read carefully. All aftermarket speakers are designed specifically for the mid and high frequencies. When properly upgrading your audio, you get tweeters forte high freq, regular speakers for the mid, and a sub for the low freq. The speakers that come from the factory have a paper come or some different material that allows them to hit the low frequencies. Kappas are great at serving their purpose, but at low freq, like all aftermarket speakers, they suck. Since we can't put in a real sub anywhere, I'm looking for a good 'all around speaker' that's capable of hitting those low freq. Hell sit in any newer Nissan and turn the bass up. Those are far superior to our stockers and are not aftermarket. |

Maybe you did not read this??? |
prowler emil | In my last post I stated "paper cone or some other material" Point is, stock speakers hit low frequencies much better than aftermarket. |
Eric Wolf | I found that if you just install the Kappa speakers in the doors thay sound poor, if you change the dash and rear spealers as well they balance themselves out and sound OK. |
kb7obj | i changed dash, doors and rear ( except rear sub ) will have it re coned . still not happy. I guess for a car i drive now and then it will due. |
dskatt | I just had kappas installed. The audio guy told me our amp did not allow full power to go to the door speakers. He said the system is designed to primarily allow midrange to the doors, high to the front and back and base to the sub. |

idive | He's not talking about stock speakers. kb7obj - have you adjusted your equalizer for more base? |
dskatt | His point was the amp will not allow the Infinity Kappa speakers to perform to their full potential, specifically the tweeter. |
ed monahan | At this point I am glad I am old and getting hard of hearing. If they aren't buzzing or chirping, they are good enough for me. |
JRL | My God guys, haven't you all heard of low pass and high pass filters? You can tailor the sound to your liking and can cut the high treable quite easily |
dskatt | To be clear,I am happy with the sound. I think it is much improved over stock. I'm just relaying what I was told. |
idive | Someone else posted the same info years ago. |
paulmyers | I'd prefer to replace with original door speakers too. Anyone know the part number or a supplier? |
