MetalWithGrace | Sorry guys, I wanted to be finished with the first by now but I had to stop and get some more consumables, smaller collets, and smaller weld rod and I am moving a little more slowly with the flu.. this picture shows the differences in the patterns from the M&L grille and the stock grille.. I had to change my patterns and bucks for fit.. this illustrates why. ------------------ Grace Cameron Metal With Grace 206-762-3032 http://www.metalwithgrace.com

MetalWithGrace | One of the more difficult aspects of this project is bending the surround on the grille.. 11 gauge stainless doesn't like to bend much. That is why I made the bending buck that you see pictured above.. made of layers of plate steel and cut to shape that piece enables me to have something to work over which will give me a consistent shape over and over again.. After bending Pantera's grille surround and getting a good fit and correct lines from my modified pattern I decided to cut, clean up, and prep the first ten. I worked many long hours and I have the first eight ready. I am going to go home and get some much needed rest and be back at it later today.. videos coming soon.. I am having my daughter put one together (she does all of my videos).. ------------------ Grace Cameron Metal With Grace 206-762-3032 http://www.metalwithgrace.com

DRIVER | Keep up the good work, don't worry about time, QUALITY is much more important. You are an inspiration to all us metal knockers! |
MetalWithGrace | Thanks for the great comments, and the support.. I will be working on these until the quality is what I want.. I will make all of my supporters proud! I need a smaller collet for my tig welder so I am not blowing so much gas off, and the puddle is more controlled for the tight edges I am welding in. The people I get my supplies from have been closed since thursday, so the moral to the story is that I likely won't finish Pantera's grille until Wednesday or Thursday.. On the bright side, since my patterns worked out so well and since everything is fitting how I want it to, I cut out and am cleaning up the first 12 shells.. so when I get what I need for the welder we should have a lot going out.. I am leaving my shop for a bit.. I will be back for a while this evening but spending Christmas with my girls tomorrow. Merry Christmas to all!! ------------------ Grace Cameron Metal With Grace 206-762-3032 http://www.metalwithgrace.com

JohnC | Has anyone heard how Grace is doing? Hopefully the flu bug didn't wipe her out too bad. ______________________ JohnC - Kechi, KS |
MetalWithGrace | I am happy to say that I survived my flu.. actually got a good number of hours in on getting shells ready while I was ill.. (don't worry they still match the pattern ) I was able to pick up my welding supplies today and am finishing the surrounds and welding tonight.. will have pics, will have one finished.. but likely late.. I go home in the early evening to make dinner and then I will be back tonight to finish this one out.. but since I have all of my supplies I doubt anything will get in my way of getting done... Not nearly soon enough to suit me, but I am happy all the same.. ~Grace quote: Originally posted by JohnC: Has anyone heard how Grace is doing? MetalWithGrace | okay.. so I have about a dozen shells prepped.. they fit really nicely.. the new framework makes for a simple install.. but, I had to change the patterns last week, so now all of the bars have to be remeasured.. My welder was still having trouble and after troubleshooting they have agreed that there is likely trouble with my shielding gas, so I am off to pick up a new canister in the morning. For now I have enough surrounds and bars prepped for nearly a dozen, thanks to my bad shielding gas the first grille is garbage, I could fix it but it wouldn't be as good as fresh, so it becomes a permanent pattern,.. I am going to run home and take a nap since I worked all night.. things are going very well.. just a couple little adjustments.. please note that the above part is not a final piece.. and the nose it is on is a test fit buck that I am using.. thanks

idive | Well, there's certainly ample airflow on that one. Speaking of airflow, what ever came of any airflow tests that were run? Or have they been run yet? (Yes, I know you gotta have one made to do the tests, but it seems to me that there is a go on the current pattern, and I missed any test results post.) |
MetalWithGrace | the difference in the gapping on the bars is nominal, but I will run tests when I have the first one fully together, I am picking up a new weld canister in the morning, I cut cleaned and polished parts today so it should go together quickly and I will have better information then, I will let you know what I find. ~Grace |
MetalWithGrace | I have an engineer coming with an animometer so we can test the exact airflow changes. They will be here Tuesday or Wednesday, I will post a full report. : ------------------ Grace Cameron Metal With Grace 206-762-3032 http://www.metalwithgrace.com

thomas leuschner | Grace Is the outter shell going to be that thickness or is it going to be thin like the other picture. |
MetalWithGrace | Okay, got clarification.. the part seen in the pictures is the inner shell which mounts into the car, which the bars affix to, this is not the visable edge.. the edge you will see after the bars goes on appears about the thickness of the bars.. it is 1/2 inch, but tapers out so appears a little smaller.. ~Grace This message has been edited by MetalWithGrace on 12-28-2007 at 05:51 PM |
JohnC | Grace, Just to make sure I understand (along with everyone else) regarding the edge treatment of the grill: Are you saying that the exposed edge will be about the same size as each of the tubes? I tried to include a picture below for clarification: I think one of the most appealing factors of your design is that there is not a wide surround or frame going around the outside of the grill. At least it's the most appealing factor as to why I'm buying one. On a side note, does anyone know where to get one of those hood emblems? ______________________ JohnC - Kechi, KS |
MetalWithGrace | yup.. correct.. that's what he was asking about.. the outer edge is not thick.. : the emblem seen here is a vinyl sticker that M&L had made.. ~Grace |
