skb4076I read an older post by Condor in which he stated he ordered his custom front wheels (19 x 8)with the same offset as the stock wheels and then had to add an 8mm spacer to push the wheels outward. He suggested that others should order their 8" rims with the correct offset (39/40mm).

My questions are: Are the stock wheels studs long enough to accommodate an 8mm (.315") spacer?? If not, how could an 8mm spacer be added without changing the stock wheels studs out for longer ones? Is that even possible, and if so, how difficult would it be?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Roger will be back and tell you.

xtreme prowlerI have used an Extended thread (ET) lug nust in the past when I used a spacer on the front, they worked for 4 years...

See section 3
http://www.performanceplustire.com/tech.info/A-Few-Facts-About-Lug-Nuts

beachcatYou have less than an inch of stud so that spacer won't fit. The studs come out easily. I think you can do it on the car. There's a spot that you can spin the hub to where a stud will have clearance to go out the back. Put a nut partially on and whack it with a hammer.
beachcatAround 10 years ago, in Ontario, wheels started falling off transport trucks and killing people. There was a wave of deaths so they regulated "certified wheel mechanics" into existence. You have to be certified to perform any work on wheels for the public.

I'm not a certified wheel mechanic. I'm not even a certified mechanic. But I have replaced the wheel studs in the front of a prowler for personal use.

I'm not covering my butt but more wanting to cover yours. Please make sure you are comfortable doing work in this important area. And re-torque after 100 miles. JMO

skb4076Thanks....and I will heed the advice.
padrooWhy the retorque Roger?
beachcatIt's a regulation up here. Providers have to offer you a free re-torque of the wheel nuts after 200 km.

I think it's wise if you're installing new studs, they may not be fully seated on the first go around. Kind of like when you used to repack wheel bearings back in the day.You could usually pull the cotter pin and turn the nut another notch after some initial use.

skb4076Any one know where I can find extended wheel studs that will properly fit the front hub? From what I have learned, the oem wheel studs are 46mm long and have a 14.99mm (.59") knurl. I need to find something with the same or very close knurl and a length of 51-53mm. I have not had any luck......

skb4076May have found something that will work. I am looking for feedback and opinions on this subject:

Dorman 610-416

Description--M12-1.50 Serrated Wheel Stud - 14.86mm Knurl, 52.2mm Length

Knurl is slightly smaller....the oem is 14.99

beachcatThat looks like it would work to me. I took a look at an OEM stud today and that difference in knurl is miniscule. Thread is good. Length is good for what you want.

Roger,

I was able to pick up this brand new set (Foose Monterey)for a steal. They had been custom ordered for a Prowler, but the backspacing for the front wheels was ordered incorrectly. With all the information provided from you and everyone else, I was able to determine that I could make the wheels work. Thanks for all the help!

Already started working on the matching trailer wheels. Going to use an 17 x8 rim. I am going to use a 2" spacer to clear the hub. I just need to decide which of the non-custom offsets I am going to use. I can pick up either +1 or +14 offset wheels for a great price on line. I read a post in which someone stated they had put 17 Foose legends on a trailer with a 0 offset; however, I am thinking maybe the +14 will keep the wheels/tires from sticking out past the fender. Going to try to go back and find the post

beachcatSweet wheels! Very nice.
skb4076Roger,

Just got them. They are even nicer than I thought they would be. Going to try to get them mounted this week.
