At what mileage would you automatically replace specific parts. I don't mean obviously faulty, manufacturer recommended replacements or worn parts, but parts that have historically gone bad at average mileage points. Things like fuel pumps, trans. sensors, alternators, hoses, belts, etc. Warren Of course I changed engines every 40,000 thousand miles whether they needed it or not. This message has been edited by catfish on 10-01-2008 at 04:47 PM ------------------ A lot of the other issues sound like they won't cause a roadside stranding. WarrenProwler X This may have been discussed before, but maybe an update would be good. GOATFALLS I would like to know this too...bob Marty Usher When they break or show obvious signs of needing repair. On second thought, the first two engine changes were needed -the Prowler didn't run so good on three cylinders!
garysss I don't think there is a average mileage or time for most of the things that go wrong. Mainly because of the amount of use varies so much. Some have had problems at 2500 miles, others at 25000, many with 30000 or 40000 with no problems. The sensors are the most common of the ones listed but still not at any specfic mileage. catfish like marty says, when they show obvious signs of need replace or repair.i use mobil 1 and do oil and filter at 15.000.grease when it needs it.i do keep a running record of whats done, when ,miles and date.this way you dont have to guess.example-replaced engine cooling fan motor and coolant and serpentine belt-09/22/08-miles-109554.mopar belt didnt last very long,14.000 miles.this time tried a gates instead.just do a visual inspect to make sure everything is a ok.that mopar belt should have lasted way longer than that.use the miles in the owners manual as a guide.also pay attension to strange noises.my car is 9 yrs old and some of the emission hoses have started to rot.found more than 1 bad 1 so i replaced all of them.im speaking of the rubber ones.,the blk.hard plastic ones are fine.heat and age get to the rubber ones.if i was you i would ck.them.some you will have to pull loose and inspect them.if dried out,blk residue on your hands or loose, replace.so pay attenion when inspecting them.my emmision lite came on due to a rotted emission hose on the emission cannister.
------------------BeWare Our car has just shy of 37,000 miles. I will replacing the front links bars and also the serpentine belt. My sensors have been replaced once about 4-5 years ago. I see no need to replace them until they fail again. I will probably have to do something with my window regulators soon. catfish rich,if they arent broken yet, remove them and do the fix, they will last a long time, and dont forget to regrease them. Prowler X It sounds like the only "common" breakdown issue is with the transmission sensors. Mine went out the same week I received the standbys.
