DESSo this morning I do my "It's Friday so drive the prowler day" and as soon as I pull out of the garage the "Low Tire Alert" light comes on.
When I got to work I did a walk around and the tires look fine however its too dark to check the pressure.

Question: what prompts the low tire alert and is it a matter of checking tire pressure? loose cap? and does the alert turn off when tire pressure is norm or do they come on in error?
Any info would be greatly appreciated
DES

Dave MillsMy warning light started coming on in 2003. After replacing the sensors a couple times, I gave up. I have a piece of black electrical tape covering the light. I have no idea if its still on or not. I have never had a tire pressure issue with the car.
ALLEY CATCold or cooler temps can set tire light to come on. After tire pressure warms up,,light will go off.

If it stays on after warming the tires,,,you better check air pressures.

Light go on around 18 to 22psi

DESthanx for all the great info..i'll keep an eye on it and check the pressure.

same here...
now that I don't have the run flats, my aftermarkets don't have the sensors so I carry a plug kit and a small 12V compressor, thats all I've needed for 5 years.

What,,,,no spare rear rotor?

galaxieI just mounted a spare on the deck lid......problem solved.
dudeuconfusemeyep as soon as it gets cold, on it comes.

brakes ? ,,, Thats a different story. last year I had to have one of the rear rotors turned down when I wore out the rear brake pads... pretty good, one set of pads for 70,000 miles going to inspect that rear inner pad every year now..

JeraneWI gave up and like Dave, I have black tape over my light and now and then check my tire pressure. Been lucky for the last seven years.

That has possibilities!

DESdrove the prowler at lunch to Jack in the Box and no tire alert/....good times!!
Greg and VetaAre those the original sensors? They do have a limited lifetime due to the batteries in them going bad. Replacing the sensors in all but the newest Prowlers is very expensive. I changed to non runflat tires and installed an aftermarket TPMS by Orange that gives me temps and pressures for each tire. Then I disconnected the TPMS under the dash and no more annoying dash light.

Good times on two fronts; first that your LTPWS light is not on (must have wamred up), and second, Jack in the Box - yum! If they still have it, the Frisco Melt, used to love getting those when I traveled out to Southern Cal!

Prowle On

DESi am a total health freak and gym freak but on Fridays i always splurge for 3 tacos and large fries before i go back to the chicken and brocolli diet.
StingRayHealth Freak / Southern Cal - don't those two go hand in hand? I miss not having JitB's here in the Chicago area. Closest ones are in St. Louis I think.

How far is Valencia from Ontario? May be out there early in March! Will get my JitB fix then.

heynow14If one tire falls below 3psi of the remaining 3 tires the light will come on. Check them all.

That was a quote from galaxie. I just added that it had possibilities. I wish I could photoshop something like that lol.

dskattI have trouble in the summer when temps get into the mid 90's. Something about the heat sets my warning light and chime off.
PURRFECTI have seen the light when running hot (in the 90s), and also when cool, (in the 60s and 70s) while all 4 run-flat tires are at 34psi... The light usually goes out if I run some distance/time over 100 miles (like recent run to the Keys). Had the low tire light, and alarm on one cold morning (about 55 degrees) and after Kat being parked in storage for 10 weeks. Since the pressure remains OK on the tires, (now for 18 months), I just plan to change out the sensors when I eventually change over to non-run-flats.

catfishextreme if you had a rr rotor chewed up so to speak,i would ck the rear caliper for sticking problem, ive got 130.000 and still have lots of rr pad left,i believe you need a new caliper.there is no way it should have worn out a rotor in 70.000,a new caliper should fix that.due to the lite weight of a prowler rrs should last at least 170.000.
