wbrown Does anybody know if someone still makes the side panel lights with the prowler emblem in the middle.
nitrosteveI think most of the cars with the Kat on the side marker lights are just decals placed on the light, that's what mine are and several others that I have seen.
catfishthey are decals, over the lite, there are no side lights, with the cat as part of the lite.

WildBillWelcome to the POA! What color Prowler do you have?

They are correct. There were no clear marker lights when I bought my Kat, so I went to a sign shop back in 2000 and had them cut a Prowler Cat logo 3.75" in length out of two 8"x8" squares of silver vinyl and weeded them as to leave the negative space of the cats. I had them create the layout with one cat facing left and the other facing right, this way they both faced forward. Using a blow dryer and a spray bottle filled with water and a little soap, I carefully mounted them onto the lights.

Please let me know if you need any help.

wbrownWild Bill.....I own a silver one like you....Wayne
alrtgWelcome to the Fastest color club.

I installed the clear lenses in my Kat and used 194NA bulbs, I am very happy with them.

WildBillA man with Class and Good Taste!

Let me see if I have any extras, I'll send them to you. I can always go back to them and have them made up. In fact, I might drive by that area this weekend.

WildBill

George JohnsonI'm kind of partial to Silver as well.

wbrownWild Bill....Ordered some clear side lights and some small kat emblems so I`m hoping this will do the trick. Thanks for your help on pointing me in the right direction. You and the other people on the POA are a helpful bunch....Thanks again, your car looks great , have to admit " No such thing as a bad looking prowler " no matter what color. Wayne
wbrown Wild Bill....took the side panels off to see what the light looked like inside, what is the best way to dismantle the light especially the two plastic nuts that holds the light together.
WildBillGlad you found where to get the clear lights. I had the decals made up for you, but I did not realize until I got home that they resized the logo out of proportion. I worked with the "NEW" guy and while he was resizing the cat, he stretched the cat out lengthwise and compressed the height. They look like anorectic Prowler cats I just haven't had the chance to get back up there since then. I'm sure what you have will work fine, let me know if you want them in silver. No charge either way.

Wayne - Oh NO... You have the side panels where the marker lights appear to be attached with the nylon nuts? That's the year the marker lights were embedded directly into the side panels. Those aren't nuts used for mounting the light; they are used for adjusting the bulb up or down and left or right. If I remember, the one on the right is up & down. If you look at them closely with a bright light, you will see a bidirectional arrow (Pointing away from each other) molded into the plastic, showing the direction control and notches for degrees on the outer collar. The only way to take off the marker light is to carefully drill it out from the inside, and the have a new custom machined mounting plate, spot welded onto the panel. That means new paint, clear coat, insulation and everything. Dude. I am so sorry; but this is going to be a major project if you believe one word I just said. : )

It's actually pretty simple. I know you are just worried about breaking something by twisting too hard and believe me I understand. It's much easier to take something apart if you know how it was put together.
The light sits inside of an elliptical indentation in the side panel and there are three holes stamped out of the aluminum. One for the bulb assembly to pass through and the other two flank the bulb on either side so the tabs on the light slide through the panel in order to attach the nylon nuts from the inside.

Apply your decals before mounting the marker lights onto the Prowler. It makes it easier to put them on straight.

Before you get started, stand back and admire all that is SILVER. Admit it. Even though we politely acknowledge the other shades of Kat. Silver is still the best

Before you take off your side panel, try to gauge the gap tolerances all around the panel. If you slide the panel back too far when reattaching it, you can run the risk of chipping it or the edge of the door or corner of the hood. Be sure to carefully check your doors by slowly opening them after you reattach the panels.

After unbolting the side panel by removing the three 10mm bolts on the top of the panel. Gently lean it towards you as to not bend the mounting clips which slide into two slots located about two inches from the bottom of the panel.

While letting the wire harness rest on your fingers, twist the bulb assembly counter clockwise. Remember, you are leaning over the marker light and you can easily get disoriented to which way to turn, so be careful.

Lift the side panel straight up and completely remove the panel from the Prowler laying it face down on a clean thick soft cloth.

Gently grasp the nut with your fingers and rotate counter clockwise. You should be able to take them off by hand. If you have some trouble turning them. Put on a glove or wrap it with a towel to give you a little more cushion and surface area to grip on the edges of the nut.

If it still doesn't want to budge; then wrap the nylon nut with a rag or glove and get a pair of channel pliers and open them up so the bottom jaw is pushing down on one wing of the nut and hook the top jaw over the top of the other wing of the nut and gently rotate the nut off. If you have a set of safe jaws you can put them on as well. You might also find it easier if you had someone to hold the panel so it doesn't move.

You doesn't have to go through the trouble of protecting the nut, but it is nylon and will get chewed up pretty easily if you went at it with just the metal pliers.

Be careful not to tear the insulation when sliding the panel back down onto the mounting clips and don't forget to re attach your bulb being careful not to touch the bulb itself with exposed skin.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call me. I will send you my number in a pm.

Good Luck. I'm sure you can do it.

If you are putting the decals on your lights before installing them, make sure you have the decals going the right way. In the past some people have put their decals on upside down, and even backwards.... When they went to bolt the lights to their car they found out they put the decals on wrong....

Very good point Brian That is probably the most important step!

alrtgWhen I replaced the marker lights on my SILVER KatI was concerned about over tightening the nuts and went easy on them.
Now the lights have losened up some and move around so I will need to apply some more torque to the nuts.

OK guys, I left it wide open for ya....Who's first with the wisecracks?
