splinterHow do you think the Prowler rates with the Cudas and the Road Runners. I mean I think the Prowler is the classy muscle car up against the other Plymouth hot rods.
I am a baby boomer and I did the Superbird, Road Rummer, Cuda thing back in the seventies and eighties. I still think those cars are pretty cool but that was then.
Do you think there will ever be a Prowler worth a $125,000 + like it's counterparts?
I know the thing now seems like 20" wheels, wild colors and of coarse the HEMI. I remember seeing a Prowler on Ebay with a HEMI stuffed in it. Under those circumstances, a sublime Prowler with the 20" wheels and the new 6.1 Hemi would be the ultimate middle aged hot rod. What do you think?
Dave MillsI don't agree that the Prowler is a muscle car. The Prowler is a cool looking cruiser but it is in no way in the same class as the early muscle cars. I don't think there is any comparison there.
MIKE GATLINApples and oranges but would love to have 1 of each. We just can't all be TUIB.
splinterWhat about a Hemi Prowler? How hard would it be to do something like that? I am not a mechanic so I don't know.
Is the guy that bought the Hemi Prowler a member of this forum.
hotroddaddyI agree that Prowlers can't be an "apples to apples" comparison to the Road Runners, Superbirds, 'Cudas, etc. They are not muscle cars, and they were built for different purposes and for a different customer. Most old musclecars were somewhat plentiful, affordable and more aimed at a youth market. I don't think the Prowler was all that affordable, certainly not plentiful and not directed at the young-in-age but rather the 'youth of old'. Will there ever be a Prowler worth $125K?? Well, already there is at least one; the last one made that reportedly sold @ $175K. Also, there are bound to be others modified/customized in excess of $125K in cost but whether they are actually worth their money depends on what someone else is willing to pay for it.
Celebrity ownership can artificially increase the value of some cars and such, but the typical Prowler in nice condition is, in my opinion, many years from $125K.... and when it is, how much more might the typical Road Runners and such be worth? Prowlers are doing well in the used car market, but for the most part, they are still decreasing in dollar value. Saying all that, I do not believe Prowlers will typically ever be worth as many times their MSRP as are many of the muscle cars.

Typically, originality brings the best return on investment with collector cars.... you will spend lots of dollars to stuff a hemi v8 in place of the hemi v6.... then you have the liability of other parts such as the tranny not designed for the increased power, so then you upgrade the tranny. Then you have something that most Chrysler dealers probably can't or won't maintain for you. And, in the end, you have likely eliminated a huge portion of the buyer market for your heavily modified Prowler. If it's your heart's desire to build/own a v8 hemi Prowler, fine, but don't do it expecting to get even most of your money back. JMO

BeWareThe Hemi Prowler that sold on Ebay struggled. It was sold for way less than the amount that was invested in building it.
I agree that the Prowler should not and will not be perceived as a Muscle Car. There will probably be a few Prowlers at some point in the future that will bring 125K or more, but they will be milestone cars such as the first and last Prowler or possibly the only Black Chrylser Prowler built. As pointed out the last Prowler already brought more than 125K.
catfishto do a hemi in a prowler and do it right.youre probably looking at 50.000 easy.went to a friends car collection last sat, this guy owns 3 prowlers and has owned probably over 500 cars.car that would blow youre mind.1 example a 40 ford conv.w/a 540 hp 427 chevy in it among other thigs car was perfect, paint perfect, underside absolutly, gorgeous,
out of all the cars he's owned he likes to drive the prowler
the most.why? it makes him feel like a kid again.i love it.

dbudnerI have small-blocked 6 vehicles in my younger days. I can say most turned into part destroying nightmares because I couldn't dump the extra cash to tighten up every part up and down stream of the engines - fix one the problem moves kinda thing. I never got back even close to what I put into them. Now that I can afford it I wouldn't even try it with a prowler just because, as many point out, it is something that will not increase the value of the vehicle to anyone beyond yourself. That being said, if you can afford it and want one - go for it. Otherwise, take the vehicle for what it is. Considering most of the 60's muscle cars were doing high 13s and 14s in the 1/4 I don't feel too bad about the performance part.
Stray CatInteresting discussion. My prowler with Gears, intake and exhaust (and maybe some headers - too many decisions) is faster(OK Quicker - the bird would catch it after about 60 -70 MPH when it found it's footing) than my muscle car -1967 Firebird 400 with 3:08 gears. This is an interesting site:

Interesting - the requirement to be a Muscle car is a V8.

By that definition the Prowler is a Sports car I think.

And another Definition:
http://www.musclecarclub.com/musclecars/general/musclecars-definition.shtml

By that one, the Prowler is a Muscle Car.

I think they will be worth a ton in the future if Gas is still around. They are too unique and there are little kids out there right now who want one and they will grow up to run companies....

They are Apples and Oranges.... but after 12,000 trouble free miles, I'll take the Prowler thank you.

John
