terry chapman	I bought front and rear mudflaps from the local Chrysler dealer the other day. The front installation is straight forward enough, but I ran into a bit of a snag on the rears. There are 2 longer screws supplied that replace the existing screws and it also says to remove the nuts from the threaded studs on the tail lights, install mudflap and reattach the nuts. The problem is there are only 2 holes in each mudflap, ( the ones where the longer screws install). The 2 tabs that install over the threaded studs do not have holes. Has anyone run into this before. Surely they don't expect you to drill holes. Please advise.
Skullrodder	Mine were the same way. Suggest putting some white chalk on the studs after removing the nuts and hold the mud flap in place to mark them. Careful when drilling the holes so you get the right angle and don't mark up the face of the mud flap. Worked fine for me, just take your time.
Gary C	Careful do not overtighten....use blue locktite
mist302	Mine came the same as yours. Had to drill the other holes. Worked out fine.
terry chapman	Thanks very much for the information. I wanted to make sure I hadn't received defective mudflaps. You'd wonder why the holes wouldn't be there. They mount to all cars the same way, so the location of the holes should be the same. I'll get out some chalk, loctite and my drill and get them installed. Thanks again.
ed monahan	Repeating what GaryC said, don't overtighten. Supposedly that can crack the fender at the corner of the taillight.
Skullrodder	You might want to check some of the earlier posts on the installation of the front mud flaps. They can hit on some speed bumps, low driveways etc. and can damage the fenders. I decided to trim about 1 1/4" from mine to be safe due to some local "driving hazards". Food for thought......

Skullrodder, I have read quite a few of the previous posts on the trim or not to trim question. I think I will trim mine. How did you arrive at 1 1/4 ", instead of 1" or 1 1/2"? Thanks.
Skullrodder	Just measured the "safe" distance on several speed bumps I normally have to drive over. So far no contact with any hard surfaces.
terry chapman	Thanks Skullrodder. I heard from another member and they trimmed off about the same as you.
MDProwler	The only problem with the front mudflaps is backing up and pinching them under the tire. Scraping or bending while going forward over speed bumps etc. will cause no harm, the flaps will just bend.
BradleyG	Terry, This could happen if you don't listen to Gary's and Ed's advise about overtighting the screws. It could crack the fender. And the fix cost me a lot of $$$$!!!

BradleyG	Buddy, It is still laying on a shelf in the Prowler Bay side of my garage. Just can't make myself throw it away and it reminds me that I'm lucky to be alive. Seriously though, here is a link to a post on the same subject. Jan (catfish) posted a possible fix for the crack and another possible cause besides mudflaps being overtightened. terry chapman	After seeing Brad's detached tail light assembly, I'll be returning the rear mudflaps to the dealer for a refund. Those kind of problems I don't need. By the way Skullrodder,I like your new avatar.

kjbrooks	Sorry, I disagree about trimming the front's. I posted the below comments a year ago, and I am still running the same flaps, and trust me, we drive everyday and scrape coming and going out of our driveway, plus the speed bumps at our work parking lots every day. I just went and looked at the front mudflaps and if you look close, there's a little fuzz hanging from where it has been scraping over the past 2 years, but you have to look for it. I haven't really figured out what the rear's do, but our Kat has had them on since I owned it. Mine are not trimmed, and I think there is about an inch and a half clearance from the ground. Our drive way entrance is just a rounded gutter, so I get a good scrape every time I leave or return (car is and everyday driver, and is always backed in to the driveway). This has not shown any negative effect on the Mudflaps, mounts or fenders. Knowing how much debris I hear hit the rear fender, I would not want to trim them any shorter. But you have to be careful backing up, you don't want to back out of a pot hole. My gutter is so steep, that the mudflap got pinched between the gutter and the tire, and as I continue to back up, it preceded to pull the finder around with it, and bent up the fender mounts. Fortunately, I was able to pad a pry bar, and get everything straightened back up. I now have a wood 2x4 bolted in the gutter to prevent this from happening again. Some people trim, some don't. This is just my 2 cents worth, hope it helps someone.
