Stray Cat | While cleaning the Prowler yesterday, I noticed two nuts that hold on the front Mud flaps to the front fender are missing. Anyone know where I can get replacements ? Part number etc ? Thanks, John ------------------

tangled up in BLUE | chances are, if they are missing they were never installed to start with.....I don't think the carriage bolt could fall out without the flap being removed...I found a good substitute bolt at a hardware store years ago, or you can use adhesive.....I had one fastened by DC with body adhesive(the entire flap/fastener fell off).....no bolts, it is still on the car 6 years and 20K miles later.... |

TUIB, I think he is looking for the nuts, not the bolts. I think I might have some extras here if he doesn't find any locally. |

...uhhhhh, maybe I need to finish my Sunday morning nap before I start reading/replying to the posts.......I think they are a 12-13mm nut.....been a while since I installed any....should be easy to get... ...I need to use the carpenters rule...."read twice, type once"

Richard Jackson | If I remember correctly they ar 6mm nuts. And they do vibrate off. Probably were there from the beginning. Richard |
RED5 | Make sure to use some loc-tite when putting the new nuts on. Jesse |
Fat Pat | Mine fell off (retraced my route and found the flap) changed the bolts to SAE, used fender washers on the inside, and blue loc tite, presto zippo...no more problem! |
TooHipCat | Stray Cat, I believe there is no specific part number for the nuts for the mud flap bolts due to them being packaged with the mudflaps at time of packaging. I would just take off the bolt and take it to the hardware store (NOT Home Depot or Lowes...JMO) to get the correct size. DEFINITELY use Loc-Tite when you reinstall. By the way...nice Avatar with you and your son. Brian |
Dale Beaman | You can also use Nyloc nuts. Not sure if that is the correct name but the have a nylon liner that holds the nuts on tight. I used them on my kat and have not had any problems. |
toys | Try using a dab of silicone on the threads it works real well they will never spin off and you don't have to torque them off like when you use Loctite. Toys |
Stray Cat | Thanks everyone - Appreciate it - need to get them fixed prior to the Woodward cruise. Will certainly investigate all the suggestions and get back with what I did. Sincerely, John ------------------

thedqman | John, I have extra. If you want them pop me an email and I will send them out to you. Mike DQ Man |
catfish | use nylock nuts they will not come loose.and you dont have to mess w/locktite or silicone. ------------------
|
Chromer | The nuts are 8mm, and the Nylock variety can readily be found at any Home Depot and cost about 9 cents each... This message has been edited by Chromer on 08-05-2005 at 06:35 AM |
prowlrman | I used Nylock on mine...had lost 2 original nuts on each side when I finally noticed it,,,Nylock only way to go...just drove over 1,000 miles last weekend on very rough California highways and actually checked nuts and they are 100% as tight as when I put them on about 1 month ago. Bought mine from an ACE Hardware...but any hardware outlet should carry them... |
Stray Cat | Thanks, I will get some at the store and get them on this weekend so I can get to Woodward safely ! really appreciate all the help. Mike - no need to send them if you haven't already. If you have, let me know what I owe you .... Thanks everyone ! John ------------------

quote: Originally posted by GRROWL on 06-10-2003: You're bringing up what has been a HOTLY debated topic in the past. Yes, they are metric. HOWEVER, you can go to Home Depot and pick up 1/4-28 "Nylocks" (locking nuts) that will work PERFECTLY!!!-GRROWL
P.S. - Original American hot-rods WERE NOT METRIC! |
obi-wan | The mud flap nuts are 6x1.o metric with a captive large dia. conical washer on them. While these are dificult to get and not avail at the dealer except with a new set of mud flaps I have a source on them and have them in stock. I sell them for 5.oo for 3 units 10.oo for 6 units. These are the same exact size as the orig. ones and they are just slightly darker in color and match the inside color of the mudflap very well. I do suggest using a dorp of locktite or some black silicone rubber (on the top of the nut after inst.)If you want these parts just send a check for the amt. of fasteners you want to: Scott Curtis(make check to me) 755 Vista Grande Ave. Los Altos, Ca. 94024 Questions?? Stray Cat | Picked up the 1/4 28 Nylocs and Stainless washers.... Mup flap problem solved. $1.72. Thanks Grrowl and everyone else..... Woodward here we come ! John ------------------
