BuddyBradDoes anyone have any experience with the Mopar "cat back" Prowler performance exhaust system? It's their part number P5007536. List price is $928.20 and my local Dodge dealer has it advertised for $696.00.

I see a lot of happy folks talking about a product made by SSS. Is this just a baffle replacement for inside the factory muffler? Where can I learn more about it?

BuddyBrad

fixummIt is from the muffler back. you get one muffler and two tail pipes. they sound a lot better and look a hole lot better. if you buy it you will be happy.

Has anyone actually heard this system and if so, what do you think about it? It is worth the money?

prowlerbabeI love mine! You can call Randy at Lakeland Chrysler direct & not have to wait for bidding to end. I still haven't heard Jay's SSS muffler, but am looking forward to hearing it in June at Daytona. Randy's #800-455-2501. GOOD LUCK!

Gary ArcherBuddybrad:

I have heard them both in Louisville.
I will be buying the SSS muffler from Jay.
But like all things, it's a preference. You need to hear them both for yourself.

Todd CameronI've got three of the mopar's, far better in my opinion to buy muffler and tips for another $200 and polish the ends of the pipes from underneath for a really cool look! Sounds great too!

Steve TTodd,

Any pictures of the polished pipes installed?

Todd CameronSteve, I haven't taken them as I have been waiting to install my real rod 1/2 pan. Since you've asked though, I'll try and take some in the next day or two. Just bought a house and between that and work going to be really busy, but I'll take some and post.

JCProwlerI wanted a cool look and sound, I went for the Mopar/Borla. I paid $575.00 plus shipping. I got mine from MidPark Chrylser in Dallas.
Todd CameronThat's a good deal, you have their number?

BuddyBradMidpark's number is: 972-231-6500 and Randy Palmer is their Parts Department man. Unfortunately, last week when I tried to order a trailer from him he told me they are being bought by another company and their parts ordering capability is "frozen." If the part is in stock, that may be another story.

You can also try Causeway Chrysler in Covington, Louisiania. Ask for Todd in Parts. 800-259-5337 or 504-892-9165. Good luck!

catterumpusGo for the Mopar Borla. We have it with stock tips without baffles. It has a deep howl, esp at higher rpm @ full bore with no sharp rap you get with straight through or glass packs.

Dear Buddy Brad,

I have an IDENTICAL exhaust set-up as Catterumpus....
The Borla Muffler with stock tips and no resonators does absoultely SOUND better than my previous glass packs (but man, the Borla REALLY hurt my performance).

It all depends on what you want...me..I'm going to lick my wounds..get out my wallet..and go back to those obnoxious raspy sounding glass packs!!

Borla: "Sounds GREAT..Runs like Sh.t"

Stray CatSo am I understanding that by putting the Borla on your Kat (I have stock set up and I have a Mopar Borla in the box) that the performance goes DOWN

How can that be ? I though the Exhaust added 10-15 HP ?

John

BuddyBradChromer, I'm disappointed to hear that the Borla hurt your performance too. When you say it hurt performance, are you going by the feel in the "seat of your pants" or actual 1/4 mile times? I assume your talking about 0-60 type performance and not top end.

Catterumpus, On your installation, if I understand you right you installed the entire Borla system, but left the stock chrome tips on the end (minus baffles inside). You didn't install the chrome tips that came with the performance kit (the ones with the Kat engraved on them)? Why didn't you want those tips on your Kat?

catterumpusBrad, we got the Borla after we heard the NY Prowler club members were so stoked they ordered 18 of them. Maybe it's a matter of taste but we absolutely love the sound--deep and loud but not too loud. For the record at Bandimere Speedway (Denver) my best run was 16.31 and 84.67 mph. My r/t was .62. Our 2K is entirely stock except for the Borla. We like the stock tips without baffles because they are Prowler and are more in tune with the classic street rod look. The carbon fiber cans are too big and belong on a teenager's Honda.

ChromerBuddy Brad..

I'm judging performance between the glass packs and the Borla by "seat of the pants" feel, but most importantly the lack of the "chirp of the tires" when the car upshift limits into 2nd.

I am going to way heave the Borla and go back to glass packs someday. When I do, I promise to go back to Bandiemere and get some documented times in and post those times to be fair to Borla and to validate thoughts about Borla hurting my performance.

Marty UsherThe SSS is a replacement for the stock muffler. Nice deeper tone than stock. For me without catalytic converters, it actually made the sound more tolerable at high RPM. The glass pac I had were great with the cats on but with them removed, the high RPM sound was obnoxious. As Gary said - sound is a personal preference. Jay's SSS sound good!
