PROWLE-R	My 01 Orange Plymouth cat was reasently rear-ed, $4500 estimated damages, now I'm a member of "Car Fact". Has anyone had experence with loss of value due to an accident. I'd like to go after the insurance company for my additional losses in market value. I'm still looking for a left rear bumper engraved with the word Plymouth to complete the repairs.
ALLEY CAT	P-R - If the accident damage makes it to a CarFax report via your VIN# being reported and damage,,,I'm sure your resale value would be hurt. You might press the other insured's insurance company for appearance allowance damage? I understand your concern. If that happens to me,,,,I'm rolling out of the driver's side door unto the ground and demanding emergency room treatment. My pain and suffering will be huge. I've never been the type to "sue" people for frivolous things,,,,,but today's world on claims and people without car insurance,,, is starting to change my mind.

Prowle-R, Sorry to hear about the negligence of the other driver and the rear end collision damage to your car. I pause to think about how much damage (total?) would occur to a bumperless car like mine, if it was hit from behind?? I might have to exact my own brand of American justice if it were to happen to me...
BeWare	The insurance companies call it diminished value. Our 2003 Ram was wrecked just over a year ago. The damages came to $16,000. The truck was 10 months old at the time. They gave us $1,200 Diminshed Value. Which by they way is about the loss over average trade in we took on the truck when we traded it in 2 months ago. You could not tell the truck had ever been wrecked. The truck was clean as a pin. The only thing it needed was having the sprayed in bed liner repaired which I never got around to having done. catfish	diminished value,some ins.cos will pay it some wont.do you know for an absolute fact that your car is listed on car fax report saying that it was wrecked. ------------------
Bama Kat	depends on whose fault the accident is, if your insurance company pays they don't cover dimished value but if it is the other persons fault you should be able to get some from their company Mike
catfish	doesnt matter if your the claimant,most cos.,will tell you to get lost.if they pay you diminished value,then your ahead of the game.good luck ------------------

GRROWL	Diminished value is tough. I looked into it in the same situation and would have needed an appraisal firm behind me and probably a lawyer. What I did instead was this: I went through my own insurance company for collision and used their "guaranteed" shop. They couldn't hit the paint color in 3 tries (they used DuPont rather than PPG. Orange is probably equally difficult to match as yellow). I wrote (emailed) my insurance company and quoted THEIR guarantee and I asked them how they intended to return me to "pre-crash" condition. They suggested I go to my own shop. I said, "without your guarantee, absolutely not". They paid me $6,000 for a complete repaint. I drove over to my shop and had the paintwork done for $140. I consider the $5,860 as the "diminished value" payment. Since I was not at fault, my rates didn't go up and the other insurance company reimbursed my insurance company in total, including my deductible, which I got back. BTW, I consider the $11,000 received for "pain and suffering" as compensation for the "lost use", which is the other hard sell. Good luck. Let us know what happens. -GRROWL
