MIKE GATLINFun, interesting take on the car from Jay Leno with color commentary from Chip Foose.
I enjoy how initial perception changed while spending time with the car.

Dick HenryWe need too have a rally in Calif & cruise 65 or so Prowlers over to Jay Leno’s garage. Maybe Leno will meet us and take a cruise in his car with us. Also invite Foose and some Prowler designers. We might make the news. I know,,, dream on. But I’d make the drive to be there.
RPLThank you. Nice, interesting video. Knowing Chip, you can see that he respects Tom Gale and I know that Tom respects him. I helped Chip with the Marriot build. If memory is correct, I had to have Larry Lord pickup my control arms from Chip.
BeWareWe just watched it. Mike beat me to posting. It was very interesting but I wish that had someone with more knowledge giving them facts. Allot of thing’s they guessed about were off base. For example they thought they sold for $32K new. I liked Jay’s comment about people having prejudices without ever driving one.

Hoagie1I watched this earlier, It’s great that the Prowler is getting some well deserved attention. Hopefully having it hit the Hagerty list and Jay’s YouTube we can get more people interested in the history and what it stands for.

I do agree, they should have had more facts.

Richnew41Thanks for sharing…. From the Prowlers debut, it was well announced that there will be those that get it and those that don’t…. Funny thing throughout my travels over the years, I’m still waiting to find someone that doesn’t get it…
I will say, and especially when on the road, the Prowler does tend to cause a health issue (open mouth lock jaw) which is good enough for me. If I wanted speed now, or way back in 02’ when I purchased my 1st Prowler, I would have purchased it.

padrooI liked the video but like Rich said, they had a lot of the facts wrong. If built today the V6 would put out more power but the Prowler was in line with Chryslers V8 in both HP and torque and the V6 was lighter. I'm glad Jay found out for himself about the Prowler. All the car magazine editors parroting misinformation about the Prowler and my guess is they never drove one,
ed monahanThe first half they were ragging on it quite a bit. When they drove it, they felt better. ALL of US know that feeling. They think they are all low mileage, too. Not for me, drive it. Jay needs to see Mike's clip of THE TURN.

SuperDaveAfter a bone marrow transplant in 2016, my sister bought tickets to see Leno's garage at a silent auction. She invited my son and I to spend a few hours on the tour. Jay happened to be there recording teasers for the next season of his show and had nice things to say about the Prowler when I asked him about them but I believe that he mentioned that he thought they were underpowered. I replied that they were quite fun to drive, but standing next to many million dollar cars "fun to drive" is a relative statement. Jay was extremely nice and spent some time with us ensuring that we were getting a good tour. He was extremely personable and is such a nice guy. It is great to see him driving one now; thanks for sharing!

One of my Bucket list trips would be to Big Dog Garage. I agree it would be good to have an event that could make a showing at Big Dog and let Jay talk to owners and see what has been done, OH, including Tony's 4 seater.......LOL That was a early 99 since it didn't have trunk carpet on underside of deck lid. Too bad they didn't have someone like Bob there to discuss with Chip and Jay more factual points.

MIKE GATLINThe notion of poor sales comes up occasionally, as it did with Jay and Chip, but I am curious to know what sales projections were from the start. "Hey Bob" what is your take? Was the plan to sell every Prowler they built or build every Prowler they could sell? To my knowledge every Prowler built for sale as sold, correct?
MIKE GATLINGreat point Ed. Had they seen "The Turn", the group photo at Chrysler HQ, a mile long string of Prowlers in the Black Hills and the Smokey Mts, etc, their initial impression may have been different.

garysssThis is exactly why "you either get it or you don't".
RPLI left day-to-day operations after I did the launch. The plan was batch build and allocate. Dealers were not able to order a car or color. It did okay until they over built the blue which was an "Edition" unlike the Woodward or Black Tie which were very small numbers. Rather than offer an incentive, we made the decision to end production with the run of 300 deep candy read cars. That meeting cost me a car. The car could not have been built beyond the 2003 MY as it was. CJ still has the color plan for the balance of the 2002 MY and 2003 MY. Jerry provided the missing color masters.
ALLEY CATQ by Bob.. "The car could not have been built beyond the 2003"

Just wondering.... why is that?

quincyMight be because Chrysler was owned by Daimler by then. They had their own agenda...called the CrossFire. Just a guess.
garysssI read why somewhere, but can't remember. I think it was something about new safety standards that would have had to have major changes to the Prowler.
dskattDoesn’t like it based on initial press reports back in the day. Likes it after actually driving and experiencing the Prowler. I have to admit I had the same attitude until my neighbor brought one home and gave me a ride, I bought one a few months later.
padrooI remember RPL telling me this many years ago.

CAT-A-TONICLike always and as usual,.....too much focus on the power train. Prowler was not meant to compete with the Viper. It's assumed by people that have NO clue that because of the V6, it's a slow boat to China. I've heard enough of the V6/V8 engine crap determining this cars entire profile to last a life time.

That did have a lot to do with it. The Daimler management made no bones about them NOT liking any of Chrysler's cars except the Viper. By the way, the Crossfire was a Chrysler design but at the time the German management that "knows or knew everything" decided that their older SLK power train would somehow make the car more appealing. IMO, it was the price that turned people away.

Randy HamiltonI never knew that the Foose design was a combination of the plan view of a 1933 Plymouth and a side view of a 1970 Cuda. Nothing to do with a Ford.
