firegabeOk all After soo much thought. I Just bought my first Cat. woodward #020
I need to please ask what dealers and mechanics do you prefer to use? The car lives in the Ventura and Los Angeles So. cal area. And with the occasional trip to San Jose/San Francisco.
I want to take it in. The transmission Shifts very hard like a big whack!!! in auto stick from 1st to 2nd then in 2nd to 3rd still hard also. But 3rd-to 4th is like a caddy.
Also I need to buy new konis for the front and the hood props also. I need shocks! Is there a route to get them at cost
Also I want to pay so I can get my first star!!!!!

ALLEY CATFire - Since you are north of LA area, might want to email one of these three guys for dealer info in your area:
Jim Stallings - exbones@aol.com
Dan Garcia - rbadkat@hotmail.com
Todd Cameron - toddbertrang@yahoo.com

The shifting hard - if you are rolling along at slow speeds, like in a parking lot, the shifts from 1st to 2nd will be hard as you described,,,,normal. You need to be gaining speed as each gear is commanded to shift, for it to feel smoother. Have a dealer check it out anyway.

These cars ride stiff anyway,,,,are the shocks leaking and how many miles on your cat? Replacement shocks at dealerships will not be Konis,,,,DC changed suppliers of the front shocks after your cat was built. Hood support shocks like on your cat are a normal failure item on these cars, and run about $30 to $50 each to replace, depending on the best price you can get.

Good Luck and welcome aboard!

ed monahanGabe, your hood shocks might still be under warranty. Like A/C stated, the hard shift is intentional to save the clutch plates.
Congratulations on the new Woody.

First, welcome.

Second, the first thing you need to do is disconnect your battery for 15 minutes to reset your transmission computer. The prowler has an adaptive transmission which "learns" the driver's style and yours is adapted to the previous driver. After the reset, drive it the way you want it to adapt (a lot of owners suggest to drive aggressively with the AC on for the first 50 miles to make it peppier. Personally, I like it smoother, so driving it gently produced VERY smooth shifts all around).

Good luck and enjoy.

BTW, if the above doesn't work, you should read the posts here about transmission fluid - you can search for my postings and you'll find the Chrysler requirement and TSB for ATF+4, which is only available at high cost from Chrysler dealers, but the prowler transmission is very sensitive to the wrong fluid.

BeWareCongrats on the new Woodward.
Lone RangerCongratulations on your new kat. The Woodward is a beautiful car but then again aren't they all? Great way to start the new year!
Todd CameronWOO, Woodward... nice I personally drive an hour each way to take my Kat's into the Fillmoore dealer. The Mechanic there, Bart, is quite nice and skilled. I think Dan goes to Ventura somewhere. Fillmoore's # is 800-801-5337 or 805-524-2277. The service guys are Ross or Brian, give them a call!

JRLSounds like normal Kat to me!
Try installing a shock tower brace, put on a set of non runflat Dunlops. Run 28 to 29 lbs of air pressure and that alone will make the ride MUCH better.

CTProwlerMust just be a Woodward problem!!!It usually happens around 7000 miles!!!

Todd CameronActually, every 5000 miles the rear suspension brace needs to be re -tightened... this takes out a dramatic amount of jumping and "hard riding". The factory, as usual, forgot to put flat and lock washers on a much needed stress area that MOVES!

firegabeWell yes I have 8K miles. and also the brace that is a little higher than the battery. The front still shutters on the freeway. thanks for all of your input!! and help so far!!

FireGabe

Randy CobbTodd-

Where do you go on a kat to tighten the rear suspension brace?

Black Tie 161Congrats on your new toy!

Shocks: I had mine replaced under warranty. You might still have yours under factory warranty.

Shifting: The Prowler shifts like that naturally. The tranny has a computer that "learns" your driving style. Mine shifted hard when I got it,but in local traffic, the driving is slow, and now the gears learned that and they now wind out slowly with gentler shifts! Just like GRROWL said, disconnecting the battery for 10 min or so cleans the slate. Then you reconnect the battery and restart the car with the A/C on. the however you drive it for the next 15 minutes will set the shifting style in your car. It is completely adaptive.
