Roger WaringI see on ebay the sell a high performance computer chip that will generate a additional 20 horse power. Is this true, and does it do any harm or mess up anything on the car
It would be nice to pump it up a few more horses. What would be the easiest way to produce a 300 horse power car. I was thinking the chip, and headers.
dbudnerBuy the headers and put the money for the chip on gears. The chip is useless.....
392HEMIWell stated Mr. Budner. My brother helped develop the 3.5 and his team of engineers have tweeked the PCM (Power Control Modoule) on the Cats to handle 99% of all factors needed to develop HP & torque. After market chips for these engines aren't going to add 20 HP. IMO However if you want a quice 15HP, take out the baffles and put a K&N air filter in and the PCM will reward you. Straight pipes will add another 3 to 5 HP.
Roger WaringI kind of thought that the chip might not be the ticket, but didn't know for sure. I will research the gear issue.
When we talk gears in the Prowler are we talking what we used to refer to rear end gears like 410 quarter mile 456 eighth mile. With this gear change will this affect the long ride mileage, and high RPM?

These are the gears you want.

Purple 1999--Chrome wheels, Mopar/Borla Performance Exhaust, Prowler Pro Gears, K&N Air filter, Shimmers, ceramic brake pads, Splash Guards, DekProTec, Chrome Shift Bezel, Real Rod Flame Ball Shifter, Chrome Headrest Covers, Wonder Bar, Infinity Kappa speakers, & a smile from ear to ear...

392HEMIRoger, the final gearing will effect fuel usage, the lower the ratio, 4:11, 4:56, 5:11 the worse the mileage. Stock ratio is 3:76 I believe with a .69 overdrive for a final drive ratio around 2:79. Might be off a little but the proportion hold pretty true.
Roger WaringThat looks like the Kats meow. New gears, headers, and remove the baffles should do the trick.
Roger WaringOn second thought the K&N filter, remove the baffles, and headers might be the starting point. I just want a bit more horse power, and a little more growl. The last time I did a gear change was in a 1969 Super Bee 440 six Pac if I remember correctly 323 gears to 511 gears. On the maiden run I could not believe the power, unfortunately the back pressure blew the engine. The only thing salvageable was the intake and three deuces.
1buddycAnother casualty of the dreaded "Heavy Foot" disease....
Marty UsherWith the performance gears the engine runs 27% higher RPMs. I ran them for well over 125,000 miles. Highway MPG dropped about 2-3 MPG but still got 20-21 on the road. THey sure "woke up" the stock engine performance.
catfishi emailed the guy about the chip, and the supposed 20 hp.he never answered.
Mike KrehelThe last chip I heard of was done by Kenne Bell. He offered one that removed the rev limiter and speed governor and claimed an increase in horsepower only while the tranny was shifting by removing the Torque management from the PCM. In the Prowler, torque management cuts one cylinder out during shifts. Most other cars cut back on two cylinders during shifts.

Over the years I've tested several chips on my dyno and saw no overall horsepower gains at all!

The stock programming is about as good as it gets unless you start changing cams or do other significant engine mods.

If you want more HP, you can add a small shot of nitrous or a supercharger. Paxton was the only company that ever offered a supercharger for the Prowler, but discontinued it several years ago. Westech Automotive will soon be offering a Pro Charger Supercharger kit for Prowlers. If you are interested, call Jim Daley at 262 889-4346.

If you really want to feel more seat of the pants torque, the best bang for your buck would be Prowler Pro gears. Call Dean at 970 260-2411 to purchase a set.

dudeuconfusemeHe is awsome to work with! Let me know when that supercharger becomes available!
