jinsokuprowlerI washed my car on friday, washed under the hood, under the rear end, trying to keep the car as clean as possible(you guys know the drill), when I left my driveway, I noticed the speedometer was bouncing around, and then just layed rest at zero.. I was going about 40.. so the speedometer stopped working, I figured maybe something got wet (i'm still new to these cars) and when it dried out it would just come back.. I know this is stupid to think, but the cars driving fine and no lights were on. well, leaving the girlfriends house last night, i went over some railroad tracks like i usually do, and i get on the highway, not only is my speedometer not working now, but the check engine light is on.. all my guages seem to be reading fine, just the light is on.. if anybody has read my post last week, ive already had to rebuild the motor in this car, so i'm freaking out now.. i had to drive to work today and at a redlight i noticed at a stop with ac on the rpms were bouncing from 500-1000 in a light pulse.. what could I have done to this!? the transmission is shifting fine, i had to replace the sensor on the about 3000 miles ago.. any input!?
DFOTOPROmay be a little late...but Kat's Do Not like Water...lol

sorry could not resist, however I will say in the 1 1/2 year I have owned mine it has never seen any, all cleaning has been done by cloth and cleaner/wax

sounds like you may haven gotten the pcm wet, may dry out, but I would disconnect the battery for a few minutes, neg post then when you put back on drive it like you just stole it and see if that helps

good luck

dj

jinsokuprowlerI will try that today when I get off, its been rainy outside this past weekend as well.. of course it would be, i washed my car, so OF COURSE it will rain immediately after!!

I wish I could keep it out of water LOL but this is my only car!! whats crazy is i noticed on the way to work that with the speedometer not working, the trip/milage/cruise does not register either!! eek!

PanteraIf you have prowlerpro gears, you may have blown the fuse that powers the "little black box" .....I had that fuse blow on me and the speedo stopped working but everything else was fine.

jinsokuprowlershes all stock, for now.. i want gears pretty bad, but im also trying to move and my kat keeps getting into trouble!
broakie56Not here to burst your bubble........but after you get this existing problem fixed, I would unload THIS particular cat. It sounds like you're in for never ending issues with the one you own. Sorry to say this....but best of luck with it. Every model car has a few lemons mixed in somewhere along the production line.

d'nirojinsokuprowler - sorry for your trouble and I don't know if anyone will reply with an answer to your problem, I've never (myself) run into those problems. But have had problems that I could not get an answer from this forum and I found a pretty good website that was able to steer me in the right direction and stayed with me until the problem was fix. "justanswer.com" - the tech I talk to have 18 years of plymouth/chrysler experience, after all said and done I paid him or the website $23.00 for 8 hours of question and doing what the tech told me to fix the problem. Hope the site can help you or someone here.
jinsokuprowlerjust got back from advance auto parts, plugged in the obd scanner, popped up with a speed sensor malfunction, looked like the same sensor thats commonly replaced on the transmission, which i replaced already lol.. im gonna get under the car here soon and make sure all the connections are tight, i might even pull out the sensors real quick and make sure that theres no leaks or something anywhere.. i feel like this is an easy fix this time

thanks for the lookout broakie56, after this if i do have anymore problems i most likely will be looking for a new one.. hopefully this really is just as small as a sensor..

although its weird that it still shifts fine?

DFOTOPROdid you try the battery to clear all the codes

Don't worry about the car being a lemon unless of course it is a Gold Prowler. That is how Chrysler marked all the lemons. (Sorry Boakie56, I couldn't help myself)

TLRandallReplace BOTH sensors just to be safe, if one goes, the other will be close behind it.

As far as the lights pulsing, I have been there too, you have a short, bad ground or at least a bad battery.

Read this and check yours out too...

idiveI was going to help but I was out freaking. What was the code they pulled? How old is your battery? Let us know if this resolves your problems.

I wouldn't neccessarily jump to thinking lemon as broakie suggested. If changing your sensors doesn't solve your problem, PM me your email address and I'll drop you a line.

OUCH Andria.......but wait a minute......Gold is worth over $1k an ounce. What's Silver worth these days? LOL!!

catfishbesides the sensors, from what you describe,i would ck the wire loom to the sensors.if car is shifting ok,not a sensor, could have a bad sensor wire.if it was a sensor bad,it would be in limp mode.the code says sensor, but most likely somthing related to it.ck all connectors and wires inc.the tcm in the trunk.

ed monahanMake sure the wires on the ends of the sensors are secure.

OUCH!

jinsokuprowlerthe pulsing wasnt in the lights, it was in the idle of the car, i got underneath it yesterday while the battery was disconnected and checked all the wires, everything seems to be okay, where do the wires form the sensors lead to? its just weird this happened after washing the car..

since reflashing the battery, the check engine light is gone, but speedo still isnt working.. if i hit a harsh bump like railroad tracks, the speedometer will bounce around a little and go back to zero.

battery is a little under a year old

GRROWLtry disconnecting and reconnecting the large connector to the transmission computer in the trunk (you'll need a small socket wrench to jack the connector up). The contacts can get a coating and lose connections, just removing and replacing the connector is sometimes enough to make contact again (or try some spray contact cleaner from Radio Shack).

-SPARKZZ

NowhinersAs per the transmission I agree with Growl on the connection in trunk. I've had to re-tighten connection three times. The transmission operates properly with no speedo reading.Giving the connection a wiggle and re-tighting has been the trick each time. As far the engine idle that's another can of worms. Mine did this surging while the A/C was running when I first purchased the car. It stopped on it's own shortly after driving awhile.
BradleyGWhile you are checking the connector in the trunk. Please check your ground wire connections. I had the same problem a couple of years ago (Speedometer not working). My ground connection was not making good contact. I loosened the ground screw and retightened it. WALLA!!! It was fixed.
jinsokuprowlerwill do, im gonna be like the mad scientist on friday lol i has to be something loose , over harsh bumps it will bounce around a bit, im guessing a contact somewhere is touched while im bumping lol
