Digit Meaning Position I don't think sharing a VIN number with two different type cars would be legal. The insurance companies would throw a red flag on that idea. This message has been edited by Gort on 08-16-2013 at 08:21 AM pastohio I am asking this because we seem to have a large knowledge base on this website, a car company in Michigan has listed a 1997 prolwer with vin of 300918 , they claim 18 th off the line, I thought that the Viper And prowler were sharing VIN numbers on the production lines ??!!, Is this so and can you tell what build order your car really was, other than the build date gives you an idea in the building season as to what ordert they were built...?? My $.02 ??!! Gort Decoding Your Prowlers VIN (Vehicle Identification Number):
- Country of Origin (1 = USA)
- Make (P= Plymouth, C = Chrysler)
- Vehicle Type (3 = Passenger Car)
- Passenger Safety (E = Active driver and passenger air bags)
- Car Line (W = Prowler)
- Series (6 = Performance/Image)
- Body Style (5 = Open body)
- Engine (F = 3.5 V6 steel block, G= 3.5 V6 Alum. block)
- Check Digit (0 through 9 or X)
- Model Year (V = 1997, X= 1999, Y= 2000, 1= 2001, 2= 2002)
- Assembly Plant (V = Conner Avenue Assembly Plant)
thru 17 - Sequence number (Six digit number assigned by the assembly plant)RPL The VIN's are shared by Prowler and Viper both built at Conner Avenue Assembly Plant. Plants share VIN's with all the products built there. As we've seen in the past, the VIN doesn't indicate the number on or off the line. It indicates the number assigned that particular vehicle. idive Mine was built in late August and the VIN# on mine is slightly above this guy's VIN# and I got a letter from Chrysler on their letterhead stating that mine was the 156th Prowler built. This information is direct from factory records. The VIN# on mine doesn't have 156 in it. The VIN# has nothing to do with the build number. The car company you speak of is misrepresenting this car, assuming the VIN# represents the build number. pastohio Thanks for the discussion....I think first numerous cars were built and not sold for display, testing etc....the way I understand the Prowler, it wasn't really planned to have a long life, rather a 5 year build, and when the frame problems and panel flexing, the 1998 weren't brought out ??!! The car was purely to explore using aluminum throughout the car and get weight down and therefore an alternative to regular car building methods...the buyback program (replacing frames on about 100 cars) seemed to have the biggest affect to the Prowler's value...my $.02 CJ From a very trusted friend who is in the know!!!
"Vin 300918 was #24 built. It was the only car built on 7-14-1997 and went to Taylor CP in Taylor, MI"
