JHNeed some help. I order a fuel pump from Jefferson Auto. The pump works but the car won't start. Does anyone have any suggestions?
druYou're going to have to be more specific. Does it crank? Is it getting fuel? Did you check the fuel pressure when you key it to on? Did it start before you replaced the pump? Did you hook everything back up? If it ran before, and you're getting fuel delivered to the rail, then I'd look at spark.
padrooDry is right, we need more details. Why did you change the fuel pump and what other troubleshooting have you done?

JHSorry, yes, not getting fuel pressure. It cranks fine and at one time started. I purchase the adapter kit to install. Just wondering if it's a bad fuel pump?
padrooI would check for power and ground at the fuel pump and then make the call.
Back probe the fuel pump connector while trying to crank the engine. If you remove the connector and test for power and ground it would be an unloaded test.

druYes agree with Dale. Did you connect a fuel pressure guage to the schrader valve on the fuel rail on the intake manifold? If you turn the key on, how much pressure? Zero? Minimal? Double check your connections. Don't know with the new Tom Mills pump kit if you have to disconnect wires from the old pump connector and then attach the new ones. But if so, make sure you got all the wires inserted correctly. And if nothing else, if you have to pull the pump back out to check everything, turn the key to on and see if the pump comes on right there. Let us know.
JHThanks for your help!!! The car is still at the garage and the mechanic is lost!! You would think that an American car wouldn't be too difficult!! lol.
robinGive them a call .Great people will help you out.

Jefferson Auto Collision is your place for custom Prowler parts.

TomcalOpen trunk and listen to fuel pump with key in run position.

Do you hear fuel pump humming? Should hum for a second or two and then stop.

Re-check your wiring as previously mentioned.

Disconnect fuel output hose from top of pump assembly and temporarily connect a hose to output, running it into a can to catch fuel.

Is fuel flowing?

JHI will try all options!!!! I think my car has coronavirus!!! Thanks Guys
ed monahanIn that case I hope your other car isn't a KIA sitting next to the Prowler in your garage.
JHNo KIA, just a Toyota!! lol.
JHJust spoke with mechanic and he advised that the pump works but doesn't provide enough pressure to get the fuel.
Tony GoertzHave him check pressure relief valve in the pump assembly. May have come apart due to changing pump itself.
ed monahanToyotas are from Kentucky so it will just talk funny. Kia's are from China and that is how your car could have gotten the virus.
JHShould have known. I'll never buy a Kia.
JHThanks Tony.
Gary DonovanKia's from China? I don't think the South Korean company would like hearing that
garysssI have a Kia, so far it hasn't made my other cars sick. Well not to my knowledge anyway. LOL
ed monahanGary, where have you been hiding??? I spent a year in S. Korea and I wouldn't recommend anything coming from there, either.
garysssI've been hiding in the house like everyone else. LOL

Thank you for your time in South Korea, did not mean to upset you.

It was my dads car, he bought it used. It was easy for them to get in and out of. When he stopped driving, I took it for driving them around. I've had it for 6 years, no problems so far.

ed monahanI meant Gary Donovan but I accept your apology for something that probably occurred before you were born, lol. Were you a member of the draft board, by any chance?
Gary Donovan Yo Ed..got busy with my Day/Night job flying international during my last 3 years. I also spent 365 days in ROK flying F-4s around the "Peninsula" 40 years ago. We called it the "Land of the not so right"http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/icons/icon24.gif I retired recently and look forward to rejoining your merry band of Kats!
JHJust an update, car is still in shop. Waiting for another new fuel pump. I hope I can get the virus out of this car!!! It's been way too long.
JHWell, the Kat is still at the garage waiting to be repaired. They are trying to get the new fuel pump to work but having a difficult time. This is why you have to do your homework before purchasing a car that is no longer made. What a nightmare! I'm on my 4th week!!! SUCKS!!!
