jammerJust been offered a 4 year extension bumper to bumper, 72,000 miles, $0 deductable for $1715. I have till 8/06 on factory and they will extend to 2010. Only have 6500 miles now. Any comments or anyone else get this? What do you think? regards

DR PROWLERJammer,I've always been very Pro-warranty...
To spend $1700 these days doesn't take very much!
cnote6I bought mine about 3yrs ago and paid $850 $0 deduct. This is a Chrysler.
Marty UsherMy extended warranty. I had 4 year - 100,000 mile MaxCare warranty BUT the four years was from the original inservice date. I think I paid around $1250 for it when my car had 30,000 miles on it. I have had way more than than that amount covered by the warranty.

Randy CobbI am also contemplating an extended warranty.

Background - My 2002 Prowler has 9400 miles on it and the initial warranty expires in March 2005 (I think). As you can tell by the mileage, mine is not a daily driver, it is my toy. It is driven on nice days and on some weekends. I don't have the ability, facilities or time to do repairs. The dealer changes the oil.

Questions:

1. Should I purchase from my local dealer even if at a little higher price to possibly receive better treatment with a claim?
2. What is the best level of deductable?
3. Best term?
4. Fair price?

Thanks in advance for your responses!

wallygator310I recently bought an extended warranty from Bob Haisler (where Bruce used to work..Bryden Motors?)for $50 over cost. Got 7 yrs/50K with $0 deductible and the cost was about $1295. Call him at 1-800-824-1784. He really sealed the deal and was a pleasure to talk to.

Wally

SuperDaveI purchased a 7 year 100,000 mile Chrysler warranty for my 1997 model out of fear. Since it was a new model I was not sure that many of the aluminum parts would wear well but I was sure that they would all be *expensive* to replace. I have 26,000 miles on mine so I'll never hit the mileage limit, but since it was purchased in early April 1998 the warranty will expire in 2005.

That said, I'd love to extend that warranty if possible. Any and all ideas would be appreciated!

idivejammer - you didn't say where you're getting that warranty. 3rd party? Chrysler? 3rd party warranties can be a dangerous investment. Do your research. Many go under leaving you hanging.

Randy - Since you have time, you still can take the time to decide your need. Remember, the longer you get it for, the higher you'll pay. (ie. getting it now vs in March 05.) You can still get the Chrysler extended warranty as long as the car in service date is under 4 years old (unless they changed that). It should make no difference getting it from your dealer vs any other dealer.

superdave - your only option would be a 3rd party warranty, unless Chrysler offers up a late extended warranty for us, as was stated some time ago. I don't know if they ever did that or not. Let us know what you find out. FYI - the dealer in Louisiana offering extendeds $100 over cost told me to call my insurance company, specifically stating State Farm offers extended warrantys. I haven't called them yet.

jammerHI, ya, this is a 3rd party. Thanks for mentioning it. Is the Chrysler extended warranty a "Bumper to Bumper $0 ded.", or just drive train after the first 3 yrs.
Dale BeamanJust talked to my dealer. He offered me the Max Care 7yr / 75,000 miles (which is really 4 yrs / 57,000) extended coverage for $2450 on my 2001 with 18,000 miles. This is a Chrysler plan with full covrage. Is this a good deal?

Thanks
Dale

Marty UsherDale - I don't know about a 7 year plan but that is almost double my 4 year/100,000 mile plan was two years ago. I think a couple of the dealers that post parts for sale here can get you a quote to compare pricing. I bought mine from Causeway Chrysler in Covington Louisiana at something like $100 over their cost.

Jammer - the Maxcare plan offered THROUGH DC dealers is still administred by an outside firm and they have options for zero, $50, $100, etc. deductible per visit (not per item). Maxcare covers MOST things bumper to bumper but excludes normal wear & tear and items like brake pads, batteries/cables etc. Be sure to read the exclsuions.

wallygator310Any Chrysler plan or 3rd party plan starts from the day the car was first sold or transferred from the dealer to a customer. So a 7 year plan that had a start date of 4/1/00 is good till 3/31/07. All the plans go that way.

Again not to belabor the thought, check on the above thread I posted for the cost and phone number for a Chrysler Extended Warranty from Bob Haisler. $1295 for a 7yr/50K warranty w/$0 deductible is a hell of a lot better than $2000+.

Dale BeamanWallygator,
Did the dealer have to inspect your car? I talked to a dealer in SC who had a good price but I had to take my car down there for an inspection.

Thanks
Dale
GUBIf you call Chrysler and give the vin number to the warrenty division they can give you all the different options and their cost to you. I was also informed that when I bought my 2002 in Jan. of that year their was a promotion from Chrysler and I have a 7 yr. 75M powertrain coverage. They faxed me a printout. sandy g.
Dale BeamanWell I called Bob and he offered the same thing as my local dealer for only $1430! He gets my business when I am ready to buy one the first of January.
firegabeThe Max Care will not cover my third brake light!! Bumper to bumper means nothing now a days. Read the contract bumper to bumper!!!!! (start to finish) I learned alot while they were trying to sell me one for my new Rumble Bee Dodge Truck. A month or so earlier I had the Kat in and the warranty would not cover the third light!! He gave me a song and dance Then I played him the tune of WTF. A police Officer gave me a fix it ticket so it must be important!

Best part he told me that it will include the oil changes. ( I later find out that my Hemi uses more oil and I will have an added charge due uppon service that I allready paid for)

Sit down with a service advisor and read the contract they will let you know. What your getting in to.

Firegabe

P.S. sorry if I sound frustraited

Independant companies offering extended warranties are a waste of $$$. JMO

prowlrmanJust used my Chrysler extended warranty for the first time today...clock spring replacement in the steering wheel...I have $100 deductable....cost for repair...$265..so I figure I just used up $165 of the $1,200 I paid for the warranty and still have until 11/07 for coverage...I looked at the warranty as a pre-paid bank account...if I have a few big claims it will pay off, if not..then I guess I gambled wrong...but no hassles today and I am a happy customer....with my air bag light off and my cruise and radio controls working once again.

Be careful with 3rd party warranties...recently it has been in the trade papers that some of these companies have gone "belly up" due to high pay out of claims. I don't think that will be the case with the Chrysler backed program. People are now out of their money and no options to file any future claims.

I totally agree.
And half the time they even replace with used parts just to cut the expenses down and always try to find a reason why NOT to pay the claim!
Read the fine print before you buy!

That's only if you're lucky, a big one recently went out of business leaving a lot of people holding the bag.

JUST JPFiregabe,
I would call DC warranty 1-800#. Your 3rd brake light should be covered under "electrical" items. Maybe a different dealership wouldn't be a problem.

EdsCatI got an after market warranty for $1,300 100,000 miles. Paid an extra $100 for 'no deductible' on repairs. Three months after I got it the air conditioner went out - $1,200. A month later the transmission died - $3,200. Prowler's are beautiful, but they are the victim of Chrysler quality control - not good. Did I get my money's worth? Oh ya...
Randy CobbI got a qoute from my dealer today.
They told me they use a 3rd party now because no one wanted the Chrysler warranty due to the high cost. The warranty co. is JM&A Group.

I gave them my mileage of 9,400 on a 2002.
The quote was a bumper to bumper, for an ADDITIONAL 4 years ending 3/31/09 or 48,000 miles (whichever is sooner), with a $100 deductable for $2,150.

The 3rd party scares me and the price seems a little high.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

My guess is that they can make more money on the 3rd party warranty. JMO
