Frank | Yesterday the engine light came on. The manual seems to point to emissions. Gas cap was ok. Will the aftermarket air cleaner and breather affect this. I don't want to take it in and them tell me "aftermarket". Bill, any help? Thanks Frank |
Key Man | Frank I have the same thing going on for the third time. I have been told it has to do with the evaporator. Had the code cleared twice. Yesterday I was out and could smell gas while the car was in idle prior to driving. Will be having mine checked out this week.Alan |
Dale Beaman | Have the dealer check the rubber hose that runs on top of the gas tank. My check engine light came on three times before they located the problem. It is a cheap rubber hose that dry rots and cracks. Make sure they use a braided/ reinforced hose so it won't happen again. They will tell you that they have to remove the transaxle and gas tank but they don't. A guy with a small are can reach it. |
c.mangeng | Frank and Canuck, I had same problem signs with engine light and smell of gas and it ended up being the same solution that Blubyu has mentioned. Have that hose checked. Good luck. Craig |
MDProwler | got a check engine light today @ 1100 miles but no smell of gas. Gas cap is tight. ------------------ 2001 Orange Prowler (2)2002 Ram 1500 QC 4x4 2000 Durango 1995 Ram 1500 4x4 1993 Chrysler Concorde

Dale Beaman | My Check Engine Light Came On Again!!! What next? This is the fourth time. I wish Honda or Toyota had made the Prowler - We wouldn't even need this part of the website!!!! |
c.mangeng | MDProwler, take it to the dealer and have them run a diagnostic test on it, it will give them an idea where to start. The gas smell was noted down in the tire area/under car on mine. Your problem may be different, give dealer service dept a call. Make sure they have a certified "Prowler" tech. Good luck. This message has been edited by c.mangeng on 07-30-2003 at 09:51 PM |
c.mangeng | Blubyu, keep the faith. Take it back and have them run a smoke test on it to see where the leak is.....if this is same problem, ie evap system. If it was that difficult to get to they may have not gotten a good seal, the smoke test should show the leak location. Good Luck |

WAYNEW | You can get a check engine light from bad gas and if you put some STP gas treatment the light will go out if it is bad gas. The bad gas comes from getting gas just after the tanker refilled the gas station and the water in the tank is mixed with the gas. I have had this on my prowler and my mini van and the light goes out within a few miles. In Houston we have 100% humidity and water in the gas is a problem. ------------------

Frank | Greg, Thanks for the offer. I just might take you up on it. I disconected the battery and reset the computer. It was okay for about 30 miles cruising on Sunday. I took it out tonight and it popped on again. Sorry I did not reply sooner but my email was down and I changed internet service. My new e mail is frank@bnfcontractors.com. If get this lets see if we can get together. Thanks Frank |
MDProwler | OK. I've had and reset the engine light three times now in 700 miles. I had my mechanic check the codes it was giving off. The code reader showed that the right O2 sensors were not showing any variation in signal ( not reacting to rich or lean mixtures). I did pull the resonators out but don't think that should cause it. I guess I'll take it to the dealer when it reoccurs. I'll repost when I figure it out. ------------------ Gary K

WAYNEW | Did you try the $3.00 fix and put STP gas treatment in your car? ------------------
