| RPL | We recently passed through Denver on our trip to California. We were towing an open car trailer with a Prowler onboard. It was suggested that we take the new E-470 by-pass around the city. As the roads were still slippery from the previous day's snow, we wanted to avoid the heavy morning rush hour traffic on I-25 through town. We encountered five toll booths along the way. While cars are only $2.00 per stop, our car with the two axle trailer was $6.00 for each stop at four of the booths and only $5.25 at the southern most toll booth. It cost us $29.25 to drive E-470. I didn't check the distance, but it seemed like it cost $1.00 per mile. All that I could think of was our adventure on the 407 ETR during the Toronto event. The only difference is that we could pay and knew how much it was going to be. |
| Marc-Colo-99 | Bob, yea it is pretty expensive but believe me we would have been having brunch and not breakfast if you would have taken I-25. I use it all the time to go north or south, course I'm not usually pulling a trailer, they charge by the axle. Hope you were reimbursed some or your expenses as I'm sure your gas mileage was more and I know you spent some time completing the deal and picking the car up. |
| Marty Usher | The amount of $$$ collected on toll roads must be HUMONGUS. I just drove I-70 from Ohio across southern Pennsylvania and received a "ticket" at the beginning. I have paid tolls of $.50, $2.00, even $3.50 but when I got to eastern PA I had to pay $14.00 - for just a car!!! Then $3.00 to cross the bridge over the Delaware river and then another $2.50 on the Atlantic City Expressway. For my 6 days in Atlantic City/Philly/New York I spent almost $100 on tolls. Then there's parking at the train station - 12 hour minimum and you needed 20 quarters for the parking meter. I am glad I live in a toll road free and light rail free area! |
| Wayne Finch | I am not sure if I am for or against toll roads. On one hand it seems like a tax grab, however, if they actually used the tolls for the intended purpose, we'd have more roads, better roads, and I would waste less time and aggravation (and gas) in traffic jams.
Last I heard, the average highway costs in excess of $1,000,000 a mile to build. One way or another, we are paying for it

| WildCat | Our governer has decided to lease the Indiana Toll road across the top of Indiana to the same company that leases the Canadian toll road.....so watch out.. they also lease the toll road around Chicago......It cost me pulling the Prowler Trailer going to the Power Tour about $30 Spainish and Austrailian group leasing more roads here in the US. Paying the State of Indiana 3.85 BILLION DOLLARS for a 75 year lease. THEY PLAN ON MAKING A 12% RETURN ON THEIR MONEY |
| RPL | Ed, Both the 407 ETR in Toronto and E-470 in Denver are excellent roads. Traffic, even with the toll booths was very light. Delays at the toll booths weren't an issue either. Both roads offer frequent users an electronic billing option which avoids having to stop at toll booths. We traveled I-44 in Oklahoma on the way home. There were two $8.50 tolls. They also have electronic billing. It costs me $60 in tolls to and from Wisconsin through Indiana and Chicago when I'm picking up and dropping off a car. I the above three cases, cars paid one-third of what you would pay hauling a two axle trailer. An amount grossly out of proportion. If they charged by the axle, the tolls work only be double that of a passenger car not triple. Maybe someday soon, the tax authorities will get together an agree upon a common electronic toll collection plan. More people would then have the equipment in their cars and actually speed traffic, reducing pollution, reduced contribution toward global warming and decreasing consumed fuel. Only my silly thought and recollections. For everyone headed to Tulsa next year from the northwest, you will have one toll to contend with. |
| whealy | Bob, Sorry to hear about the toll road fees. I avoid those like the plague. Except in Houston. But I can relate to your story. I remember we took the second half of the I-70 toll road in KS a few years back. I was looking at the ticket used for payment when I saw the varying rates per axel. As we pulled up to the pay booth, a flat bet was along side us. They had 10 – 12 rear ends on the flat bed. So that was like 20 axels!  I begged my wife to ask the attendant how much they were going to charge that vehicle or ask if we could start up a collection to help get them though. Needless to say, she didn’t see the humor. One of the few times the driver rotation turned out of my favor!

Texas will be getting a toll road as well that will be operated by the same company. Its the end of the world, I tell ya! |
| 01Prowler | If you are ever in New York, try going across the GW bridge with a triple axle trailer... You'll get across the bridge for a cool $30.00. I can't even count how many times I've paid that toll.

| ed monahan | Some places a m/c is the same as a car, others it might be a little cheaper. Crossing into Canada from Detroit it seemed the Prowler trailer cost more than the car, which seemed ridiculous and it was exact change only, QUARTERS only so I had to back up with the trailer behind me. Common sense is not very common. |
