| Mulholland 01 | Hey guys.. just noticed after a 2 hour road trip going approx 75-80 that now the car doesn’t want to start. It sounds like it wants to then bogs off. Another thing is the electric fan is not running. Not sure if it was ever running. The temp never got above 3/4. Not sure if this car has a Gail safe when it gets hot Only thing I can think of? I’m new to the Prowler, any help would be great. Right now it’s sitting u til it cools off a little. If it doesn’t start I have to have it towed. |

| Richnew41 | Just for future.... The temp gauge should only ever be at the 1/2 half point or just above... Above that you have an issue.... |
| Mulholland 01 | Gotcha.. that’s why I was posting. I figured there was an issue. If anyone could chime in and give me some part. Numbers on a new electric fan or where exactly to go from here. I was thinking radiator flush , new t-stat and new fan. Kat’s got 36,000 and not sure if anything has ever been done. |
| ed monahan | It might only be a fuse and not the fan itself. If you are going to flush it yourself, put it up on ramps to get the front end higher than the engine itself. That will help in the bleeding, which can be a pain in the butt on a Prowler.

| Marty Usher | Hopefully you will get this sorted out soon. A suggestion would be to go the classified section and do a search for last 60 days for "Service Manual" and see if anyone has one for sale. These are a great resource if you do your own work on the car or to take to a mechanic (if you are not going to a dealership) You can usually find a set of the four manuals for under $100.00... a little more if a hardback cover is included |
| LSK | Fuses and relays are in the power distribution center in the engine compartment on the driver's side. Can't remember if you have to remove the side panel to get to it. | Mulholland 01 | Excellent!!! Thanks guys. The main panel is on the driver’s side. I will look at it tomorrow and go thru the fuses. I just purchased the manuals so hopefully that will shed some light on what’s going on. Thank you again for all the information and help!!! I appreciate it! |

Check Fan fuse # 19 - 40Amp
Take out fan relays. With a wire, jumper the terminals as shown to test the fan.
This will test the high and low windings of fan, bypassing the computers and sensors. If fan does not run, ensure fan connector on fan shroud is connected. ( 3 wire connector) Fan motor is same as many other cars such as 300M etc while the Prowler Fan assembly is unique. Fan motor from other model can easily be transplanted.

Tony: Do you have the correct part number for the fan motor for future reference? Not sure if it makes a difference by year, however mine is a 1999. |

| Mulholland 01 | Problem has not been solved yet. I had ordered a Prowler fan online (EBay) but when they went to ship it they realized they didn’t have one. So now I’m back to square one looking for a fan. If anyone has an extra fan they want to sell or know of a fan for sale please PM me. Thank you |

| mslc10 | search for fuel pump thread, there should be one telling you about fuel pressure after starting and after shut off and how much maintaining pressure reading should be.

| Tomcal | Before you go replacing parts, do some diagnostics. You appear to have two problems, overheating and hard starting when hot. They can be related or not. 1- Check to see if fan is running when warmed up. Bring motor up to operating temperature idling. As temp rises, observe if fan kicks in first at low speed then at high. If no, then check fan at relays per Tony Goertz description. If fan does not run at both speed when doing Tony's tests, then replace fan. 2- Fuel pump test.... When cold, turn key to run position (do not start)
Listen to pump humming sound coming from trunk area. Should hum for 1/2 second to 2 seconds. Do same test when engine is hot. If it hums more than a few seconds then pump maybe going bad. Pressure test... connect pressure gauge to fuel rail test port shown in picture below. Port is on drivers side bank of engine. Pressure spec is 58 psi +,- 5psi. Check when engine is cold and again when hot. Should be no difference in pressure. With engine off, pressure should hold for a few hours. If there's a large pressure drop after a few hours, then check value in fuel pump is bad. Replace pump. As you know, replacing a fuel pump is not going to solve a non-running fan issue. You should perform tests on both fan and fuel pump before replacing any parts. Let us know resolute of tests.
