John M. GrubbHere are the picture of my battery shut-off switch. Designed for a boat, works well in a Prowler in Minnesota!

RBADKATJohn
The battery shut-off switch works so well it shut off the pictures.
You need to turn it back on.

John M. GrubbWell, I have tried 6 times and I keep getting this:

You attempted to upload a file totalling 716281 bytes. This exceeds the maximum limit of 500000 bytes (70k). Please go back and select a smaller image.

I am stumped!

ALLEY CATGarcia - I see you are all over it

Grubb - I couldn't tell from the picture,,,,,you have the shut-off attached from the negative side right?

jkburnsDon't worry John, I know what you meant. Those darn warm-climate Kat owners don't know what they're missing by not having to store their vehicles or worry about the battery discharging in frigid temps.

AC: I hope you burn your rear on the scaulding leather seats!

P.S. It's 9 above zero here today!

ALLEY CATJohn - Don't fret, its frustrating to me also! First, you can go to your second post,,,hit edit, and delete the text out. Your picture has something to do with pixel size, which you can change in your computer. I can't explain it,,,I B computer STUPID.

Burnzy - 9 above? Whusszzz I came from the mean streets of Nebraska and the wide open plains that seen -77 below temps. Got the sheepskins on the cat seats to prevent leather burns,,,,,,I prefer carpet burns. Look at the bright side for you,,,,,,another 75 days and you can uncover your cat, lol.

jkburnsUnfortunately, there's probably some truth to that! My wife is convinced we'll be back on the road by the end of March. I think it'll be closer to the end of April.

I hope she's right.

ProwlerI hope she's right too Kevin! I have to go to a wedding on April 4th in Fergus Falls.

whoa girl

whealyJohn,

I'm a little stumped without the pictures, but I know a freidn of mine purchased on of these battery drain protectors . Not excatly sure if this cures what you're trying to do with the switch. His situation was that his dad had an old Porsche that had a sort that slowly drined the battery. So everytime he went to start it, nothing. Unless bhe remmebered to disconnect it. I beleive they siad this item worked. Like I said not sure if your situation in the same. Thought I'd throw it out anyway.

------------------

Tom SantellaIf the battery drains does that mean that there is a short somewhere? Haven't been able to drive my Kat since Nov. but I try to start it up every week and I have not had a problem.
Duane CurtoCars or Boats, anything that has a clock or radio or onboard computers, has what is called "Parasitic Drain" this is a normal amount of current that is used to retain the memory in these items.
On a modern day car, the way to figure out what the maximum parasitic drain should be is;
Take the OE battery specs for reserve capacity and divide by 4.
Example.. a vehicle with an OE battery with a 100 minutes of reserve capacity, should have a maximum allowable parasitic drain of 25 milliamps.

Gary CWarning, your tranny goes through a learning period after the battery is disconnected, there is a procedure you need to follow, not really what it is EXACTLY but I learned about it the other day, you need to follow the directions to the letter or ELSE you will cause your tranny to wear out prematurely,,, I will update the Board of this critical info when I have the info in my hands,,,, Also I will have directions on the How to do the Hot wired computer deal, so if you need to disconnect the battery the tranny will stay smart.......

ALLEY CATHere is a good tip for you snowbound/stored cat owners:

Install a OPTIMA Red Top battery,,,,,,,,will keep a charge for "6" months without a charge. Dry gell design, no leaking or spilling. 6 year warranty ------ 3 year FREE replacement.

OPTIMA batteries carry the ALLEY CAT STAMP OF APPROVAL

RBADKATAC,
Ever since you bought stock in that company you have been pushing the livin Sh## out of those batteries.
I have been talked into buying one for the Kat, you even convinced me I needed one for to run the battery tender here in California in the event we had a bad winter.
Now I see your trying to sell them in lieu of the tender and as a replacement for the shut off switch.

John, for certain if you get a Optima red top battery you won't need a "Shut off switch" and you will be able to post Pictures.
Sure is warm hear in Calif....
Keep it warm.
Dan G.

ALLEY CATDan - stock in OPTIMA is climbing,,,,,,but the real reason I'm pushing them is to get as many old battery "cores" as I can to drop off in your driveway, in Green Valley. I don't want your golf cart to go limp like you do,,,,
Black Tie 161Gary C...

From what I know....If the battery is disconnected. Once you reconnect, and start the car, you need to start it with the A/C on...Then immediately drive for 10 minutes in the style you want the tranny to learn....Although I think it adapts to different driving styles as time goes on. When I first got the car, it shifted hard and soon.....after driving mellow for a bit in traffic, the tranny went longer before shifting, and the shifts were softer.

I can't see how disconnecting the battery can prematurely wear the tranny, though.

Tom SantellaThe point I was trying to get to is , if I can start the Kat up once a week and run it for a few minutes and the battery seems ok, do I need to do anything else. It always starts right up ,maybe cuz it it almost new. Well, it is a 2000 but just got it from a dealer last Nov. with no miles. So really the battery is 2 years old. I wish I could just drive this darn thing everyday like some of you folks!
Tom
CWatsonJrI am wondering if John is talking about a security switch that cuts power to the car from the battery.

For those of you talking about trickle chargers. Check out this post http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000963.html and the one I refer to in that post for information on a reliable trickle charging system that is super easy to install and use

JRLI have an Optima red and a green knob battery cut off. Since I put the Optima in I don't need to turn it off anymore as it seems to b holding a charge just fine after 3 months and counting.
JRL
Gary CI have my extra Prowler tranny going to one of the Guru's who builds trannys for the 600hp diesel trucks, in our conversion he told me that there is a procedure you MUST go through after the battery is disconnected... When I get my new beefy Prowler tranny I will let you know what needs to be done,,,I could call him and get the info by I would hate to lose something in the translation, My battery has been discounted about 10 times in the Black kat, when Sean and I tested the 3/4 clutch pack at the Dealership in Cali on the DRB tool I was 2 away from the 3/4 pack going away, I think the number my number 118 and 120 is toast.

Just trying to keep everyone informed with the correct info,,,

All I remember is NOT to use autostick and do city stop and go driving or something like that,,, And no WOT acceleration...

Again this what I have been told.

Have a good one
GC
